Oklahoma Westie Rescue is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and placement of neglected, abandoned or injured Westies. We are a
501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization of volunteers who open their hearts and homes to care for these little angels.
Who We Are
Oklahoma Westie Rescue (OWR) is a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization dedicated to the protection of all West Highland White Terriers. We are staffed with volunteers and all expenses are paid by OWR or through donations. We network with other rescue organizations in order to facilitate any services provided by OWR or any other rescue groups.
Where do our dogs come from? They are sometimes released by their owners, who can no longer take care of them. Some are found in city animal shelters, lost or abandoned in the streets or rescued from puppy mills. We transport them and place them in foster homes. They are taken to the veterinarian for a physical examination, neutering, vaccinations and treatment of any injuries or, illnesses. After medical evaluation and assessment of temperament, the dog becomes available for adoption and is listed on our website. The search for a forever home begins!
There is too much cruelty in this world. If we can alleviate but a little of it through our efforts, then all our time and money is well spent.
Adopting a friend
If you are looking to adopt the perfect little dog we don't have any. Most rescues are not housebroken or trained. Many are scared, have been abused, starved and some have had serious medical problems. Now, if you are looking for a dog that will be loyal, faithful and love you without reservations then you have come to the right place. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on shots, heartworm tested and have had recent physical exams and dental checks done. Rarely do we have puppies or young dogs. The majority of our rescues, are older and are usually male. Older dogs are more mature, easier to train and much calmer - so think about adopting a middle aged dog, you won't be sorry. Please make sure that you have read the "Breed Info"on our web site if you have never had a Westie or terrier. There may be issues of concern to you or your family that may change your mind about adopting a Westie.
Please remember applicants that have invisible or electronic fencing, that have children under the age of 10 or do not live in OK, AR, KS, MO or TX will NOT be considered. Preference is given to homes with traditional fencing versus without.
We do not ship our dogs. If you are interested in one of our dogs please click here for
our adoption application. Be prepared to travel to Tulsa, OK, or Oklahoma City,
OK, to pick up your dog in person if your application is approved.
Where We Are!
While our headquarters is in Bixby, OK, we have dogs fostered in private homes in cities in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Texas. You must complete and submit an Adoption Application and be approved to adopt prior to being able to meet the dog.
