Donate a Bed
Our dogs love to sleep on Kuranda Dog beds. Through the generosity of several donors we have plenty of small beds. Thank you for your kindness. At this time we only need medium sized beds. If you would like to donate a bed at a special wholesale price for a dog to sleep in comfort, please donate a Kuranda dog bed.

WHO WE ARE

Introduction
We are a 501(c)3 non profit organization and have been in existence for about 30 years. We receive no funds from the county. Our organization is run solely by donations, memberships, and adoption fees.

~PREBLE COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY~

OUR SHELTER IS SIX YEARS OLD

The PET CENTER of the Humane Society of Preble County opened on November 19, 2006. The animal shelter is located at 951 S. Barron Street (Rt. 127 South) in Eaton, OH. (across the street from Carter Lumber).

The 9,400 square foot steel facility was built by John Buckley Contracting, Eaton, OH. The shelter has 48 adult dog runs, a puppy room designed with floor play pens, a cat room, isolation areas, a multi-purpose room used for puppy training classes, temperament observation, behavior modification and education. Rooms for food storage and preparation, a kitchen and get-acquainted rooms are also available in the building.

Our shelter offers the county animals proper ventilation, drainage systems, and a healthy environment. The kennel areas have been finished with a sealer to allow proper cleaning and disinfecting for the health and safety of the animals.

The Humane Society of Preble County is a separate tax exempt and charitable organization that is not related to the county or local government other than having a working relationship with the county dog warden. The Humane Society relied solely on charitable gifts to support the construction and running of this shelter.

Please contribute to our ongoing efforts to provide a safe, humane and caring environment for Preble County's needy animals. The homeless dogs and cats need your financial help. Send your contributions to: Humane Society of Preble County, PO Box 72, Eaton, OH 45320.

RASCAL UNIT SPAY/NEUTER PROGRAM FOR CATS AND RABBITS

Location: Preble County Historical Society. A mobile animal hospital comes to Preble County once every month. The organizer for the unit and is scheduling appointments now. The RASCAL UNIT neuters cats and rabbits. Appointments are required. Call Thora Smith at 937-787-4408 to make an appointment. Cost for cats is $54 for females and $44 for males. This fee includes a rabies shot that is required at time of surgery. Rabbits are a flat $50 for either males or females.

There are so many unwanted cats and kittens in Preble County- and because of that there is so much needless suffering. Please do your part and have your cats and kittens spayed or neutered. Your cats will be healthier for it and you won't add to the homeless cat and kitten population.

ADOPTING OUR PETS

When adopting a pet from the Humane Society of Preble County we will ask you to fill out a form about you and your family and your reasons for wanting to adopt. Examples of the types of questions we will ask are: Do you have other animals in your house? Have you ever owned a pet before? Will your pet be kept indoors or out? These questions are designed to help our staff guide you to select the pet best suited to you and your lifestyle.

ADOPTION FEES

Adoption fees for dogs- The typical adoption fee on our dogs is $165 which in most cases will include their spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm test, and vaccinations to date. Some dogs may require a higher adoption fee.

All our dogs have DHPP-C and Intra-Trac II vaccinations and they have been wormed.

The adoption fee for spayed or neutered cats is $35.

Some dogs/cats may require a higher adoption fee.

All our cats have been vaccinated for FVRCP and they have been wormed.

RESCUE ORGANIZATIONS- We are willing to work with most rescue organizations. We require verification of your status as a rescue organization, and fees will vary from dog to dog depending on the vetting that has been or will be done prior to leaving our care. Please call the Manager at 937-456-7387 for further information regarding a specific dog. Thanks to all fellow rescuers!

REFUNDS FOR RETURNED DOGS

We will refund half the adoption fee for those dogs returned to the shelter from day 1 to day 14 after their adoption. After day 14, no part of the adoption fee will be refunded. We encourage anyone having adjustment issues with their new pet to contact the Pet Center for help and advice. Many problems are easily corrected with time and patience.
