Who We Are
The Jefferson County Humane Society (JCHS) is a 501c3 nonprofit independent organization supported by memberships, contributions and bequests. JCHS is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of volunteers from the community who are dedicated to animal welfare. We are committed to the general welfare, prevention of cruelty to animals, animal overpopulation, placement of animals and education concerning humane treatment of all living creatures. The Society is not controlled or funded by any state-wide or national organization. Donations made to national animal welfare groups do not benefit our local pets. Your tax-deductible donations will help us save more animals.
Our mission is to improve the lives of animals, alleviate their suffering, and elevate public awareness of animal welfare issues. We safeguard, rescue, shelter, heal, adopt and advocate for animals in need, while inspiring community action and compassion on their behalf.
Adopting a friend
Our commitment is to place animals in appropriate, lifelong homes by making the best possible match for you with your adopted pet. Ask about our spay and neuter program on our adopted pets.
We are happy to work with legitimate rescue groups to help us place these animals. If you are with a rescue group that we have not previously worked with, we may ask you to provide references, a copy of your adoption contract, and/or similar documentation about your group. Please email for more information: email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org
Volunteers always welcome! Call us at 740-314-5583 for more information.
We are in need of the following items: dog collars, leashes, cat food and kitten food, dog bones (edible treats), terry cloth towels and feeding bowls. Monetary donations will go further if we receive donated general supplies, such as paper towels, kitty litter, cat treats and toys.
