Harrison County, Ohio: : Harrison County, Ohio, birthplace of Clark Gable, Gen. George Armstrong Custer, home of Helen V. Brach, and most recently, the place where Connie Culp, the U.S. First Face Transplant Victim was Shot. Each of these people moved AWAY.
We also take pride here in Harrison County as not having one certified, sworn, cruelty investigator under the provisions of the ORC. There is a reason that ORC 1717.06 was enacted, but Harrison must have decided it is not important., therefore they just ignore it. Just because our legislators believed it to be important and passed a law is their problem.
Our dogs would love to sleep on Kuranda Dog beds, but they don't get the chance, cause we just kill them, check out the picture of the newly donated dog bed beside the homemade gas box, well there is some rest for you and can be viewed if you click on adoptible pets, no face no name. We have enough for everyone, but since we would rather put them to sleep rather than see them sleep comfy.. no need to donate as we already had 10 donated one is missing.
If you would like to donate a bed at a special wholesale price for a another dog to sleep in comfort, in another county other than Harrison, where they will not be sentenced to death, please donate to a shelter of your choice and NOT at the link below click here.
If you would like to donate funds or sponsor a dog for pound fees, vetting, fostering or transporting dogs to safety, please contact a local rescue, as money donated to this pound will NOT be utilized for the health or safety of any dog sentenced to live in Harrison County, but may reduce their deficit of over $50,000, so we do not recommend that.
This rural dog pound had not even the benefit of a roof until a year and a half ago, it still has no exterior walls. An offer of a new facilty was rebuffed by a reluctant warden in 2008, and by the beloved Helen V. Brach in the 1970's by the then county commissioners, as she was from here and saved every dog from that pound in the 1970's when she visited it. Her offer of a million was refused, the county dog pound is in the red how much now, and doesn't even have walls? Thank heavens they have a petfinder generator after they faked changing their killing ways, then promptly returned to them. More information on the Helen V. Brach foundation can be found at http://www.activistcash.com/foundation.cfm?did=120.

Come Visit Us!
It is best to call the pound first to set up a time to visit the dogs since the pound is often unmanned. The warden was a sole employee, but now his father is a Deputy Dog Warden and the warden now has another assistant dog warden, but they can't be at the pound during regular working hours between them. The Harrison County Dog Pound is located about 30 miles off I-77 just off State Route 9 and State Route 250 in Cadiz, Ohio. The hours are Monday - Friday, 7am - 3pm, but remember that the warden and his staff may not be there. The Telephone at the Dog Pound is 740-942-4080. Feel free to call the commissioners at 740-942-4623. Contact a rescue voluneer if you are truly trying to help at 740-945-1379.

WISH LIST: +caring local leaders: The MAILING ADDRESS for the dog pound is: Harrison County Dog Pound, C/O County Courthouse, 100 W. Market Street, Cadiz, OH 43907 (Monetary donations made to the Dog Pound will not go towards the rescue effort, but may reduce the dog pound deficit (approximately $50,000) that is in the red) as it goes into the dog kennel fund and will only reduce the debt, not go directly to help a dog in need. .
