TICKET TO RIDE	Who We Are
One of our goals is to save adoptable dogs from being euthanized due to lack of space at the shelter. When not enough dogs are adopted here, we try to send the ones we can to rescues. It cost us a minimum of $25 for a dog to be transported to a rescue. We do our best but we need the community to sponsor these dogs in order to help as many as we can. Please help a shelter dog by buying it a TICKET TO RIDE. Each ticket is $25 and you can fill in the name or names of the dog (on your check) you would like to help. Mail your check to Friends of the Shelter Dogs P.O. Box 576 Athens, OH 45701 We will try our best to help that dog(s). Buying a dog a TICKET TO RIDE is truely saving a life!	We are a small group of Athens County, Ohio, citizens dedicated to the welfare and rescue of dogs from the Athens County Dog Shelter. All the dogs in our care are medically checked by a veterinarian, given all their immunizations and are spayed/neutered before being adopted into loving homes. We also contribute to the medical welfare of dogs remaining in the shelter by donating vaccines or pay for veterinary expenses when the need arises and we have the ability to do so. We work to place dogs with no-kill rescue groups or find caring foster homes and adopt dogs out ourselves. The dogs that we have listed in our Adoptable Pet List are dogs that our group rescued from the Athens County Dog Shelter and are in need of a good home. Adoption of one of these dogs means that we can rescue more from the shelter. However, if one of our dogs is not suitable for you the following is a listing of dogs currently available at the shelter where you are sure to find one. When you adopt from the shelter you are truly saving a life! Thank you for your consideration of adopting a dog from either us or the Athens County Dog Shelter.

Upcoming Events and Misc.

DOG SHELTER BENEFIT CONCERT Thanks goes to shelter volunteers Katie and Natalie who organized this fundraiser. They raised over $700 during a weekend of events. They purchased Clovite which is a vitamin and mineral supplement, Capstar flea medications and had a female dog spayed. They also donated money toward the vet bills (heartworm treatments) of dogs rescued by Friends of the Shelter Dogs. Nice job. You girls rock!!

Listen to 970WATH in the morning as Thom Williams gives you the Shelter Dog of the Week. These are dogs that are currently at the Athens County Dog Shelter that are in URGENT need of a home.

Adopting a Friend

Adopting a dog from the Friends of the Shelter Dogs will require an adoption fee and the signing of an adoption contract. All dogs are medically checked by a veterinarian and given all needed medications and immunizations. No dog will be adopted out that has not already been spayed or neutered. We also have our dogs heartwormed tested and put on Frontline flea and tick treatment.

An at-home visit will be conducted during the adoption process. We try our best to make sure the dogs personality fits with your family...and if we don't have a dog that suits you....we encourage you to visit the Athens County Dog Shelter to find one that does.

Temporary Fostering

We are always in need of temporary foster homes. Please email us if you think you would like to help foster a dog on a short term basis. Sometimes we just need a place for a dog to go to for a few days until a rescue can come and pick it up.
