Sweet, four-month-old Littlefoot, who weighs all of eight pounds, came to us from Seneca County, where the dog warden found her tied up to an old shed and persuaded the owner to surrender her. She's currently in veterinary boarding undergoing treatment for the severe demodex mange that has ravaged her skin. If you would like to make a tax-deductible contribution toward the cost of her care, we would be most grateful. Please use the Paypal button and indicate "Littlefoot" in the memo field. Thank you!
In about six weeks, when Littlefoot has finally recovered enough to be released from the vet clinic, we will need a foster home for her near Celina, so that she can continue her treatment until she is completely well. If you would be interested in taking her in and teaching her the things that every well brought up puppy should know, please contact us for a foster application.
OPEN ARMS POUND RESCUE works to facilitate the rescue or adoption of shelter dogs, primarily but not exclusively those in northwestern Ohio. We assist rescues to pull dogs, arrange vetting, and coordinate transport. We screen potential adopters of pound dogs. We also have dogs we have pulled, usually from shelters in Ohio and Kentucky, who are ready for placement in forever homes. Those dogs will already have been fully vaccinated, placed on heartworm preventative, and spayed or neutered.
At Open Arms Pound Rescue, we believe very strongly that if we assist in moving a dog, that dog must be going into a safer and happier environment than the one he left.
Foster homes are the heart of rescue! Heartbreakingly, we have to turn our backs on dogs every day because we have nowhere to put them. If you would consider opening your home to a dog in need on a temporary basis, e-mail us for a foster application! You don't need to live in northwest Ohio to foster for us. Remember: the more foster homes we have, the more dogs we can save.
We regularly need transporters in the Celina, Ohio area to help move pound dogs to rescues in Canada and other areas. Transports usually occur on weekends, but occasionally on weekdays, especially Thursday afternoons. We need people who are willing to drive dogs to meet transports leaving from Maumee, Findlay, Lima, Wapakoneta, Dayton, Columbus, and occasionally Fort Wayne. If you live in the Celina area and want to help save lives in this way, please email us, or join our yahoo group, Open Arms Transports.
We are always grateful for donations to help pay for vet care, pull fees, boarding and transport expenses. If you would like to sponsor a pound dog or make a donation, please email us.
Open Arms Pound Rescue is a federal 501c3 non-profit corporation. All donations dated on or after July 2, 2008 are tax-deductible to the full extent allowable by law.
If you are interested in adopting a dog from us, please fill out an application on our website. We will evaluate your application, then call your veterinarian(s) and your personal references. If everything checks out, we will then schedule a home visit. Once you are approved to adopt from us, we will arrange for you to meet the dog and possibly go home with him or her.
Our usual adoption fee is $200, which includes the dog's vaccinations, worming, heartworm test, flea control, and spay/neuter surgery.
We ask that you please be patient while we process your application. Ours is a very small rescue, and we work very demanding full-time jobs, so sometimes it takes a week or more before we can check your references. Our initial contacts with you will be by e-mail, not telephone, so make sure you check your e-mail regularly after you submit your application. Please understand that our first concern is the lifelong happiness and well-being of our dogs. We do not adopt on a first-come, first-served basis.
