Hear our humble prayer, O God, for our friends the animals,
especially for animals who are suffering;
for animals that are overworked, underfed and cruelly treated;
for all wistful creatures in captivity that beat their wings against bars;
for any that are hunted or lost or deserted or frightened or hungry;
for all that must be put death.
We entreat for them all Thy mercy and pity,
and for those who deal with them we ask a heart of compassion and gentle hands and kindly words.
Make us, ourselves, to be true friends to animals, and so to share the blessings of the merciful.

I looked at all the caged animals in the shelter...
The cast-offs of human society.
I saw in their eyes love and hope, fear and dread, sadness and betrayal.
And I was angry.
"God", I said, "This is terrible! Why don't you do something?"
God was silent for a moment and said softly,
"I have done something. I created YOU!"
ATTENTION POUND DOG WALKERS!!
We need dog walkers at the pound on a regular basis during kennel hours Monday - Friday,
but once a month, we need walkers on weekends, too!

The dogs are kept in small cages, and they are DEPENDING on volunteers
to take them outside to relieve themselves, get a little exercise,
and last but not least some much deserved LOVE!...
some of them have never had a kind word ever said to them or a gentle hand to pet them.
I KNOW EVERYONES LIFE IS BUSY, but please make a commitment to these poor souls....
even if only once a week or once a month.

GLORIA, another dedicated dog walker doesn't let her CANE get in the way
of giving the pound dogs some much needed LOVE!
Where there is a WILL.....there is a WAY!
Lassie, Cleo, Rin Tin Tin and Toto don't show up in rescue.
We don't get the elegantly coiffed, classically beautiful, completely trained, perfectly behaved dog.
We get the leftovers.
Dogs that other people have incompetently bred, inadequately socialized, ineffectively "trained," and badly treated.
Most Rescue dogs have had it.
They've been pushed from one lousy situation to another.
They've never had proper veterinary care, kind and consistent training, or sufficient company.
They've lived outside, in a crate, or in the basement.
They're scared, depressed and anxious. Some are angry. Some are sick. Some have given up.
But we are Rescue and we don't give up. We never give up on a dog.
We know that a dog is a living being, with a spirit and a heart and feelings.
Our dogs are not commodities, things, or garbage.
They are part of sacred creation and they deserve as much love and care and respect as the next Westminster champion.
So please, please don't come to rescue in the hopes of getting a "bargain," or indeed of "getting" anything.
Come to Rescue to give, to love, to save a life -- and to mend your own spirit.
For Rescue will reward you in ways you never thought possible.
I can promise you this...
a rescue dog will make you a better person
SWEET "KAHLUA"
Was found by Keith & John who work at the pound. They got a call that a puppy was walking by the side of the road with the "skin off the paw". After searching a while...not giving up... they finally found the 2-3 month old pup with his foot torn off, dangling only by the skin. Canine Crusaders immediately took him to Crago's Vet Clinic where surgery was performed the very next day....they had to amputate his leg.
"KAHLUA" has fully recovered

Even though she had such a ROUGH LIFE.

Our organization assists rescues & out of area families to help save dogs from the
MAHONING COUNTY DOG POUND in Youngstown, Ohio.
This pound is a high kill facility that is only required to hold dogs for 72 hours before they can be EUTHANIZED!!!
We are in DESPERATE need of SHORT-TERM foster homes for dogs awaiting transport to rescues.
Foster time for dogs going to rescue is generally only 1-3 weeks.
Foster time for dogs waiting to find their forever home may take a little longer.
Foster homes provide temporary shelter, food and love.

SWEET JANGO WAS A 3 MONTH OLD PUPPY that sadly, was euthanized at the pound.
NOT because he was sick, but simply because HE RAN OUT OF TIME.

Adoption fees at the Mahoning County Pound are one of the highest in the area.
This makes it hard for rescues to pull dogs.
Sponsoring a dog encourages rescues to pull from this high kill facility
by lowering the overall cost of the adoption fee.
Our sponsorship program does not guarantee the dog will not be euthanized.
Sadly, it's out of our hands.
However, it does GREATLY improve the chance of them getting rescued!

TRANSPORTERS NEEDED WEEKLY!
We are also in great need of volunteer transporters to get 1 or more dogs to their rescued destinations.
Generally transports are 1-2 hrs. one way.
If you can assist us...even if only once a month, we can sure use the help!
OUR ADOPTION FEES:
All of our rescues are spayed/neutered, given 1st shots, dewormed and flea/tick treatment.
We do charge an adoption fee of $130.00
This allows us to continue our mission to save as many of these poor pooches as possible.
Remember, every dog adopted from us opens up another space
for a dog desperately waiting to be saved from DEATH ROW at the pound!
