We are a private rescue incorporated in Ohio as a non-profit organization. Our 501 C(3) was approved in 2008.
We take in mostly dogs whose time is up in the pounds or have been removed from abusive situations. We vet them, evaluate their behavior and personalities, then train and/or rehabilitate them. Typically it takes at least 90 days before we feel they are appropriately socialized and healthy enough in mind, body & spirit to be adopted.
Currently all of our animals live in a home, but we have plans to have a commercial facility in 2009/2010.
Vetting includes bringing the animal UTD on shots and spaying or neutering them prior to adoption. Every animal at Pooky Boo is on heartworm and flea preventives and is fed the appropriate amount of high quailty dry food every day.
Training/rehabilitaing includes work on basic skills and commands, socialization with other animals and people, house training, crate training and walking on a lead. Our packs get at least 3 excercise times per day. No animal healthy enough to be out with others is crated for more than 5 hours.
We follow the Caesar Milan credo of discipline, excercise and affection.
Our current adoption fee is. $150
This fee helps offset our other various costs, but it in no way creates a "profit". The current average daily cost associated with each of our animal (vetting, feeding & training) is $3-$4.
Btw, that number doesn't include our overhead (equipment, supplies, legal, accounting, etc.)
It does include the cost of the vetting, keeping shots up to date, current monthly flea and heartworm preventives and a $25. Lucas County Dog license- which is required by law in our area.
Donations of cash or goods are always welcome and VERY appreciated!
We do pet rescue because it is a passion of ours. Our stewardship is to help, repair & nurture these animal souls in everyway we can. They bring us so much unconditional love and we learn so much from them that the work is it's own reward.
We adopt out only to the Toledo, Ohio and surrounding areas to about a 60 mile because we do home visits.
However, we take animals in need from all over the country.
