Fairfield County Dog Shelter is open Monday-Friday 9-5 and Saturdays 9-12. We are closed Sundays and all government holidays.
The Fairfield County Dog Shelter operates on funds recieved from dog licenses, adoptions and redemptions. No county tax funds are used to support our shelter. Donations are accepted. Call (740) 652-7180 or 614-322-5294 for more information.
Visit our shelter to find the pet that suits your needs and desires. All stray dogs must be held 3 business days before they can be adopted. Adoption is on a first come, first serve basis.
Adoption Fees are $38.00 plus a current license ($12.00) making it a total of $50.00.
Rescue Adoptions Effective February 1, 2007
Fees for rescues are $25 plus the current license fee, totaling $37.00. This includes a current license which can be transferred to a new owner at the Fairfield County Auditor's Office. Under Section 955.16 ORC all dogs must be licensed before leaving the shelter.
The following are required to receive the discounted price:

List of authorized transporters or contacts (Proof of affiliation with rescue organization)
If a transporter is not listed for your organization, a letter signed by a president or officer of the organization permitting another person to adopt a dog on behalf of the rescue group can be faxed to us. Fax # (740) 681-7457 WE WILL NOT GIVE THE DISCOUNTED PRICE TO ANYONE NOT LISTED ON THE AUTHORIZED TRANSPORTER LIST WITHOUT THIS SIGNED LETTER.
Rescues must abide by our normal policy, we do not hold dogs. All adoptions are first come, first serve. NO EXCEPTIONS.
All dogs purchased at our shelter appear healthy, however it is recommended you take the animal to the vet upon leaving the shelter. Dogs at our shelter are "AS IS", they have not been vet checked or vaccinated. Fairfield County Dog Shelter provides no guarantee nor do we grant refunds of any kind.

Take 33 and turn left on Coonpath Rd. From Coonpath Rd. turn right onto St Rt 37 (Granville Pike). Dog Shelter is approximately 2 miles from Coonpath Rd. on the right.
From Athens area
Take 33 and turn right on Main St. (22) From Main St. (22), turn left on High St. Follow High St. out of town. High St. turns into 37/Granville Pike. We are located on the left just past the Community College and the County Health Department.
