Please note, the Peppermint Pig will be closed on Saturday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day! We will reopen on Tuesday, July 7.

Adopting a friend

Currently our adoptions are on Saturdays from 1:00PM to 4:00PM at the Peppermint Pig Thrift and Gift Store located at 8255 Beechmont Avenue, in the Ace Hardware shopping center next to the Sizzling Wok (on Beechmont, just west of Eight Mile Road). Please call the store (513) 474-0005 for more information.

Dog Adoptions will be held every Saturday from 1-4:00 in our new adoption center located two doors up from the Peppermint Pig.
Cat adoptions will be held June 27 at the Peppermint Pig. July dates will be coming soon!

And each of our animals can be seen by scheduling appointments!

Please spay and neuter your pets! And tell everyone else to do the same! That is what will make the most difference for them!

The Peppermint Pig Thrift & Gift store, a highly successful completely volunteer-run non-profit thrift store located at 8255 Beechmont Avenue, is the primary sponsor of Safe Haven Animal Sanctuary, a no-kill animal shelter. All proceeds go towards the rescue, welfare, care, and well being of the animals. Come to visit, to shop, and to meet some of the more than 100+ pets we have placed in loving, forever homes. Safe Haven's dozens of volunteers donate ten-thousand hours every year for the betterment and care of the animals. Their efforts have created a very effective rescue shelter and one of the more successful thrift stores in the Cincinnati area! Come show the volunteers the appreciation they deserve! And our thousands of donors, forever-homes, many foster families, and shoppers who support our mission are also an important part of Safe Haven's tremendous success in helping and saving animals lives. We could not do this without the thousands of you who have supported our mission over the years. Thank you!!!

Please be sure to come by the Peppermint Pig Thrift & Gift Store, at 8255 Beechmont Avenue, to visit some of our cats who are currently staying there. Be sure to call and see who else might be visiting the store today! As thousands of you already know, several of Safe Haven's cat's have been rotating from their foster homes to the store and are available for adoption! Please come meet the cats that are currently there . Some of our dogs who are available for adoption occasionally visit the store throughout the week adding to the excitement of the Peppermint Pig experience. Please call "The Pig" at 474-0005 to find out which of our K-9 friends may be there and come visit them!

In addition to our Saturday adoption hours (from 1-4), we have found great success in adoptions since we have starting to keep some of our furry friends at the store. In fact, we're spending so much time carefully screening homes and placing animals that most of them never even make it to Petfinders.com. We have so many success stories to catch up on posting! Growing so rapidly is such an exciting thing to see for the animals! Thank you all for your help and in spreading the word! And we look forward to seeing you when you visit us!

Both cat and dog adoptions have really increased in recent months, and we are helping even more animals find wonderful homes! And it is because of people like so very many of you who support Safe Haven Animal Sanctuary! In fact, some animals come through our shelter to wonderful and carefully screened homes before we can even get them onto Petfinders! Our adoption center at our volunteer run Peppermint Pig Thrift & Gift store has been a huge success! It is exciting! The store itself is a huge success in raising funds for the animals, and we appreciate all those who visit us, donate, shop, and volunteer with us. Thank YOU!

Who We Are

Safe Haven was founded in the fall of 2005 for the purpose of providing a safe, nurturing environment for cats and dogs until they are adopted into permanent, loving homes. We are a truly no kill and completely volunteer animal sanctuary. Even the Board Members, Directors and Managers are all volunteers!

Safe Haven’s Founding Board consists of seven members who have a combined total of more than 60 years of direct volunteer experience with animal shelters in the Cincinnati area! This includes a combined 29 years serving on Boards of other animal shelters! In addition, many on the Board have years of experience working directly with many other non-profit organizations, bringing even additional experience to use.

Safe Haven is incorporated in the State of Ohio and we have received our Federal 501(c) (3) non-profit status, so all donations, to the shelter or our thrift store, are tax deductible.

At the moment, our cats and dogs reside in foster homes, which help to keep costs down tremendously. We greatly appreciate all those who have opened up their homes and hearts for our mission. We appreciate all of our volunteers and many supporters who are as excited about Safe Haven as we are!

Our animals are receiving, and will always receive, top notch medical care, and are spayed or neutered. Currently we are searching for a permanent location for the sanctuary, and always searching for loving homes for our furry friends.

Currently our animals are in foster homes all over the Cincinnati area, however, rest assured we are looking for a permanent home. In the meantime, feel free to stop by the Peppermint Pig Thrift and Gift Store, which helps support our animals and shelter (see NEWS above).
