We need volunteers!
So you want to adopt a German Shorthaired Pointer
Thank you for your interest in finding out more about the GSP. Those of us who love this breed ask that anyone who is considering adopting or buying a German Shorthaired Pointer remember that these dogs are not for everyone! A behaved dog is the result of good care, extensive training, and careful breeding.
Do not get a German Shorthaired Pointer unless you are committed to exercising both the body and the mind of the dog. Are willing to make it a full member of your family? The high intellect, boundless energy, and curious nature of these dogs, not to mention their craving for consistent human contact, is the essence of their charm. However, these same traits will result in some very undesirable behaviors if they do not receive adequate attention and exercise. An ignored or lonely GSP will become bored easily. Barking, digging, wildness and general destruction may be the result.
GSP Care of Ohio Rescue Inc., a 501c3 charitable organization. German Shorthaired Pointer Care of Ohio is a very small group of volunteers located in Ohio, parts of Indiana and northern Kentucky, who help German Shorthaired Pointers in need.
Do you have questions about the German Shorthaired Pointer breed? Ask and we will do our best to answer them. The majority of our dogs are saved from pounds. A few are strays and some are owner turn ins. German Shorthaired Pointers in need are placed in a foster home if one is available. GSPs in pound/high kill situations are taken into foster care over owner turn ins. While in foster care the dog is evaluated, vet checked, and receives some training. The extent of the training depends on the foster home.
We have joined the Cash for Critters, which provides a toner recycling program for animal shelters & rescue groups. We are accepting donations of used toner cartridges, both inkjet and laser, in order to raise funds for our group. Even a donation of one cartridge will help the dogs.
Application must be submitted and be approved, to adopt. Application must be completed in full, to be considered. We do not allow visits to dogs in foster care prior to application approval. This is for the safety of our volunteers.
