Second Chance Rescue
Who We Are
Second Chance Rescue is a non-profit organization formed to promote the rescue, foster, and placement of homeless companion animals into permanent, loving homes.
At this time, we rescue primarily from local animal shelters in the Dayton, Ohio and surrounding areas. We pull dogs, puppies, cats and kittens that we feel have tremendous adoption potential, but that won't make it up for general adoption at the shelter for any number of reasons, including space, age, and medical issues.
We are committed to each and every animal taken into our program, and we make every effort to ensure placements are the best for both the adopter and the pet!
If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation to our rescue group, please send a check to Second Chance Rescue, c/o 4403 St. Rt. 725, SuiteF, Bellbrook, OH 45305. Your donations allow us to continue our mission of placing as many animals as possible into permanent, loving homes.
We are especially in need of donations at this time to assist us with our special needs animals, and all of our older animals in "permament foster care". Providing the level of care that we do to our animals often taxes us beyond our limits -- and we are very much in need at this point in time!

Our Featured Pet
We have several wonderful pets available for adoption now!
WE HAVE AN URGENT NEED FOR FOSTER HOMES!!!!!!!! As with most rescue organizations, we are always in need of good foster homes for the animals in our care. If you would like to learn more about the responsibilities of a foster, or would like to fill out our foster application, please send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org, and we will send the information on as soon as possible. Fostering is a great way to volunteer and contribute from your own home, and the satisfaction that comes from knowing you had a role to play in helping an animal go to a permanent home is indescribable!
Anyone wishing to donate to Second Chance Rescue, please click on the "make a donation" button below, or send an e-mail to email@example.com, and we will provide mailing information (or, see the "Who We Are" info below). All donations are TAX DEDUCTIBLE.
Adopting a friend
If you see an animal that you are interested in, please send us an e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org, or reply to the e-mail address listed for the particular animal.
Our Adoption Process -- What Can You Expect?
Second Chance Rescue is 100% committed to every animal in our care, and we pride ourselves on an adoption process that has allowed us to place our animals in the right homes from the beginning.
We have a pre-adoption application that must be completed prior to making arrangements to see an animal -- we want to know a little about our adopters, and what they are looking for in a pet, to help us in determining if the animal of interest might be a good fit. All information from this application stays with Second Chance -- we do not release any personal information anywhere else.
Then, we may contact you to arrange an initial meeting for you to come and meet the animal you are interested in. Please keep in mind that we often receive many, many applications for each animal, and so may not be able to meet with everyone, and it may take a little time before we can get back with you. Also, when we have multiple interested parties, someone is bound to be disappointed -- we realize this can be difficult, especially if you were sure the animal was meant for you, but we do our best, and hope you will understand the process.
If the intial meeting goes well, we will do a home visit both before and after the adoption -- which gives us an opportunity to see the animal in your environment, especially if you have children or other pets. We are unlike shelters, Humane Societies, etc. in that we do not have a central location for individuals to come and "visit" with our animals. We utilize a small foster network, where animals are in individual homes until a permanent placement. We must make arrangements to coordinate all visits, which can take time to arrange.
Please be patient with the process! If you are not interested in our adoption process, we encourage you to visit other organizations, that also have great pets available for adoption! We are not a "stop, shop, and pick" facility -- we want to get to know our prospective adopters, and ensure that our adoptions are right for EVERYONE!!
Please note: our animals do have an adoption fee, that can vary depending on the animal. The fee helps us cover our animal expenses, and allows us to continue placing even more animals into loving homes. Also, it is very important to us (and it is part of the pre-adoption and adoption applications which must be signed prior to any adoption) that if for ANY reason at ANY point in time an adopter is no longer able to keep the animal, the animal MUST come back to our organization, and it will be our responsibility to place the animal in another home.
Come Visit Us!
WE DO NOT HAVE A FACILITY, WHERE ANIMALS CAN BE SEEN. At this time, animals can be seen by appointment only, as ALL OF OUR ANIMALS ARE IN FOSTER HOMES. Please e-mail us if you are interested in one of our animals!
SPONSORSHIP: We know that there are many, many people out there that want to help animals in need, but cannot adopt or act as a foster home. If you like what our organization does, and would like to help out in another way, please consider becoming a "sponsor" of one or more of our animals up for adoption: With sponsorship (a committment to making a regular monthly donation), your donation will help Second Chance Rescue continue to be able to rescue, feed and care for unwanted animals. We rescue many animals with special needs, so often medical costs can be significant. The average stay in our program is approximately 2 months for a young healthy animal, to as long as a year for our older, special needs animals. In addition, we have many older special needs animals in "permanent foster care" -- ones that we will continue to provide for, for the remainder of their lives. It takes a great deal of time and money to care for these animals and your sponsorship of one animal makes it easier for us to care for others. Second Chance Rescue is a volunteer, non-profit organization. Donations like yours are our primary source of funding, and every donation goes directly to the care of animals in the program. We are a 501(c)(3) organization, so every dollar you donate is tax deductible as well. If you are interested in sponsoring one of our animals, please contact us by e-mail and let us know which animal you would like to sponsor, or we can choose one for you. We will provide you with a picture of your sponsored animal, updates on their adoption status, and future updates on their placement in a new home. Please consider a monthly donation to Second Chance Rescue for one of our animals -- help us cover a portion of the costs we incur to take in, feed, care for, and provide veterinary services to, each and every one of the animals in our program.
Dayton Alliance for Companion Animals
Second Chance Rescue is a proud member of DACA, the Dayton (Ohio) Alliance for Companion Animals. DACA is a coalition of local area shelters and rescue organizations committed to the following vision: ending the unnecessary euthanasia of all healthy and friendly pets in the Dayton area by the year 2020. DACA's mission is to provide a shared voice for a more humane community for animals through community education, spay/neutering, and adoption.
DACA's efforts are made possible, in part, by a grant from Maddie's Fund (www.maddiesfund.org).
