Hi there. My name is Daisy (LEFT). I am about 1 1/2 years old and I weigh about 60 lbs. I was found IN THE TRUNK OF A CAR that had been abandoned in the middle of the street a few months back. When the car was being searched by the police, they popped the trunk, and out popped little ol' me! The pound was called to come pick me up. Who knows the abuse and neglect I suffered before being found in the trunk of the car that night. I was pretty thin. I am very scarred up on my face, legs and some places on my body. I was only about 40 lbs when I was picked up by the pound, but I now weigh about 60 lbs and I am looking Fabulous if I say so myself! Despite the scars from my past, I am hoping to have a great future. A great future where all of the people and dogs are nice to me. A great future where I am not left wondering when I am going to get to eat my next meal. A great future where I can live inside in a warm bed instead of a cold, drafty dog house and a log chain tied to my collar. A great future where I don't have to make any more puppies. A great future where I have a family that LOVES me like I will love them. When I first came in to the shelter, I had absolutely no idea what playing was. I didn't know how to play with people, toys or other dogs. After just a month or two, I started learning all about the finer things in life like joy, playing with toys, other animals and even humans, happiness and companionship. I have to say, I have won the hearts of many of the volunteers right along with the shelter staff. They are all rooting for me to get the loving home I deserve to have. I am good with other dogs, however, I am rough and I may not do well in a home with small dogs. I can also be a little bit annoying to some dogs. I was obviously used for breeding among the other things so I try to get a bit groovy and sometimes the other dogs just don't appreciate that very much. Please consider adding me into your future plans and adding me to your family! If you need more information, please call the pound! Xoxo, Daisy!! Hi there. My name is Nyla (RIGHT). I am 1 yr 4 mo old and I weigh 56 lbs. I was found as a stray originally. I am a very high energy girl and I need lots of exercise and proper training. I have been adopted twice now and sadly for me, I was returned both times because I am high energy, I didn't get enough exercise and with not having any structured training I became too much for my other families to handle. One of my favorite people in the whole world and a volunteer here at the pound took me to be evaluated by a professional trainer (who will give my new family a 10% discount on my training if I go t him!). He said I am highly trainable and a very eager to please girl. He said my only issue has been that nobody has taken the time and effort to give me the proper structured training, positive reinforcements rather than punishment and not being rewarded in any way for behavior (such as jumping up) that I shouldn't be doing. After just an hour with the trainer, I came back to the shelter as a better mannered, more well behaved, more confident dog. I really am a wonderful dog. I love people. I get along great with other dogs, so a playmate in my new home would be awesome, but I would also be perfectly fine in a home without another dog. I am really, really hoping to be able to find the right home soon. I am so sad sitting here in the pound day after day. I watch people walk though and pick out their new dog and watch the other dogs find great homes, but not me. When will I get to find my new home and my new family who will spend the time with me that I need and will love me absolutely unconditionally the way I love them? Today? Tomorrow? Next week? Next month? Please don't make me wait that long!! Please consider adopting me. I miss having a family terribly!

Please tell people that you know that when they've lost a dog to check our site! Pictures are posted as soon as possible under the "Click here to see our adoptable dogs list". According to Ohio Revised Code, the dog pound must observe this stray hold in order to give the owner a chance to locate their dog. We ARE NOT able to adopt any dog early! After this hold period, the dogs may be adopted to new homes. PS-an ad in the newspaper may also help. Some people are reluctant to surrender a stray that they find to the dog pound. If they see an ad or a flyer, they are able to contact you. Also check our facebook page and post a picture of your missing dog!

Who We Are

We are an animal control facility. We are a rural county with a very common overpopulation problem. In 2004 our commissioners and Angels for Animals entered into a contract that makes spay/neutering dogs from the pound manditory in an attempt to educate and provide pets at a reasonable cost. This program and the Petfinder's site have resulted in a successful adoption program. We still average more dogs than pens each week, but we are finding some terrific homes and meeting some incredible people!
Donate a BedWe use Patented Kuranda Dog Beds because they are durable, chew proof and easy to clean. We now have beds for 23 of our 28 pens. If you would like to donate a bed to us, click here.

Adopting a Dog

If you find a dog that you are interested in adopting, please call the dog pound at 330-424-6663 ext. 1757 or email. We will be happy to explain our simple adoption procedure and tell you what we can about the dogs. All dogs are spayed/neutered and given a rabies and a 7 way vaccination before leaving. Trips for vet work are scheduled each Wednesday and Friday morning and you can pick up your new pet between 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm the same day. THE ADOPTION FEE IS $110.00 (CASH!!) PER DOG. EFFECTIVE APRIL 1, 2009. This includes an Ohio dog license. There are additional services offered upon request such as heartworm test, flea and tick prevention, bordatella vaccination, ect. Payment must be received before the dog can be scheduled for additional vet work. Often this means overnight a Money Order or Cashier's check if you are not close enough to the pound to stop in or you may stop in and pay with CASH.
