Hello there!! My name is Becker. I am 1 year old and I weigh about 65 lbs. I was originally adopted from the pound in March when I was 7 months old. My family loved me and tried to keep me, but me being the young fellow I am, was still in my puppy chewing stage and I could be destructive at times. I would chew things up when they weren't paying attention to me and sometimes I would eat the stuff I chewed up. I didn't really know I was doing wrong. I am still just a big goofy pup... Just a typical hound pup in every aspect. I am smart but still need some training. I listen pretty well, but again, HOUND! Sometimes the fun and smells get the better of me. I am WONDERFUL with all of the other dogs! I am great with all sizes of dogs! I am a happy boy! I love to play!! I am the perfect playmate for other dogs. Here at the pound, I often go in the play yard with up to 12 other dogs of different sizes and I am the perfect playmate for all of them. All of the other dogs just love me!! I am kind of a "social butterfly" so to speak. I am also very friendly with people! My family said that I was housebroken. I have been a really good boy here at the pound. I haven't chewed up any of my toys or my blanket, even at night when I am left alone unsupervised in my kennel. I would do best in a home with fenced in yard so that I can get plenty of exercise. I would also strive in a home with another playful dog to help keep me busy. The pound advises that I be kept in a crate when I am not being supervised to help keep me in trouble. If you're looking for a stellar dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me! XoXo, Becker! Hi there. My name is Abigail (FKA Lilly). I am about 3 years old and weigh about 45 lbs. I was found as a stray in the Calcutta/ East Liverpool area by some nice folks who work at a body shop. They kept me for a few days and posted some pictures of me on the internet hoping to find my owner, but nobody came forward for me. They couldn't keep me there so they had to bring me in here to the pound. I am a very, very sweet and loving girl like most coonhounds. I get along wonderful with all of the other dogs I have met. I am pretty playful, but I will respect them if they correct me. I just LOVE being with the other dogs. I am also a very sweet girl with people too. I was more than likely kept outside as a hunting dog, so I will more than likely need a little bit of work on house training. I was adopted once, but was sadly returned because they weren't able to get me fully house trained. If you're looking for a super nice little coonie girl to add to your family, please consider adopting me.

Please tell people that you know that when they've lost a dog to check our site! Pictures are posted as soon as possible under the "Click here to see our adoptable dogs list". According to Ohio Revised Code, the dog pound must observe this stray hold in order to give the owner a chance to locate their dog. We ARE NOT able to adopt any dog early! After this hold period, the dogs may be adopted to new homes. PS-an ad in the newspaper may also help. Some people are reluctant to surrender a stray that they find to the dog pound. If they see an ad or a flyer, they are able to contact you. Also check our facebook page and post a picture of your missing dog!

Who We Are

We are an animal control facility. We are a rural county with a very common overpopulation problem. In 2004 our commissioners and Angels for Animals entered into a contract that makes spay/neutering dogs from the pound manditory in an attempt to educate and provide pets at a reasonable cost. This program and the Petfinder's site have resulted in a successful adoption program. We still average more dogs than pens each week, but we are finding some terrific homes and meeting some incredible people!
Donate a BedWe use Patented Kuranda Dog Beds because they are durable, chew proof and easy to clean. We now have beds for all of our kennels, however, we can always use new beds as some of our older beds often break and need replacing. We can also use small kuranda beds in our crates for the smaller dogs, so please consider donating a smaller bed also.. If you would like to donate a bed to us, click here.

Adopting a Dog

If you find a dog that you are interested in adopting, please call the dog pound at 330-424-6663 ext. 1757 or email. We will be happy to explain our simple adoption procedure and tell you what we can about the dogs. All dogs are spayed/neutered and given a rabies and a 7 way vaccination before leaving. Trips for vet work are scheduled each Wednesday and Friday morning and you can pick up your new pet between 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm the same day. THE ADOPTION FEE IS $110.00 (CASH!!) PER DOG. EFFECTIVE APRIL 1, 2009. This includes an Ohio dog license. There are additional services offered upon request such as heartworm test, flea and tick prevention, bordatella vaccination, ect. Payment must be received before the dog can be scheduled for additional vet work. Often this means overnight a Money Order or Cashier's check if you are not close enough to the pound to stop in or you may stop in and pay with CASH.
