Fetch a Friend From the
Pike County Dog Pound

This site is maintained by volunteers.

We are in need of sturdy collars with strong buckles (not plastic), leashes with good sturdy snaps, straw bales and Old Yeller dry dog food from Kroger ( cost about $13.50 each). If you can donate any of these items, please contact Wayne at 740-289-4600 or 740-835-1177. If you wish to donate cash for these items, please click the Donate button below.

The Pound employees try to answer inquiries as quickly as possible but they are often so busy they can't answer you as quickly as you would like. PLEASE CONTACT VOLUNTEER WAYNE AT 740-289-4600, 740-835-1177 or zebraswd@yahoo.com for information about listed dogs and puppies. THERE IS NO "PULL FEE" FOR APPROVED RESCUES.

Our puppies are de-wormed with Panacur and receive vaccinations IF THEY ARE OLD ENOUGH. Our funding for veterinary care is limited but we make every effort within our ability to send healthy dogs and pups on Rescue transports. We highly recommend taking your rescued/adopted dog or puppy to YOUR veterinarian as soon as possible after rescue/adoption as we often do not know their health backgrounds.

IF YOU WISH TO PAY for veterinary services ( such as exams, spay/neuter, other vaccinations such as Rabies, de-worming, etc.) before your dog/pup comes to you either as an Individual Adopter or Rescue this can be arranged through our veterinarians at Shawnee Animal Clinic. More lead time is needed to schedule Spay/Neuter surgeries and you should plan to pay for boarding at Shawnee until transport day as we do not have enough foster homes at which dogs can recuperate after surgery. You will arrange payment directly with the veterinarian. Our volunteers will transport your dog or pup from the Pound to the Vet and back to the Pound for transport unless other arrangements have been made. For more information about this service, please contact Wayne at 740-289-4600, 740-835-1177 or Email: zebraswd@yahoo.com.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

SPAY or NEUTER your pets. Every year HUNDREDS of unwanted puppies come into the Pound because dogs were not spayed or neutered. This is the NUMBER ONE way you can help! Spayed or neutered dogs stay healthier, have better temperments and tend not to wander away.

LICENSING your dog helps us find YOU if your dog is lost or stolen. Licenses may be purchased at the Pike County Dog Pound or the Pike County Auditor's Office.

PLEASE ADOPT OR RESCUE from Pike Pound. We have many, many puppies and dogs coming in everyday. We are a small, rural pound with very limited space. All of these wonderful dogs and puppies are in need of new homes or rescues as soon as possible. We try our best to hold dogs for as long as possible and make every attempt to place dogs and puppies into loving homes or rescues. We are very adopter and rescue friendly. WE NEED YOU TO ADOPT OR RESCUE! Please contact the Pound (leave a message) at 740-947-5996 as soon as possible if you see a dog or puppy that you are interested in adopting or rescuing.

VOLUNTEERS are always welcome and needed to assist with Rescue Transport, to help market adoptable dogs, to take pictures of dogs and post on this site, to brush and walk dogs,to play with puppies, to help with fundraisers and grants, etc. Also appreciated are supplies, such as towels, shampoos, and rinses to use when bathing our dogs in our donated booster bath and flea medication (Capstar) for the dogs and puppies. Collars and leashes are always in great demand as we like to send all of our dogs to new homes or Rescue with a collar.
