Who We Are

C.A.R.E. (Companion Animal Rescue Effort) is an association of like-minded volunteers dedicated to the belief that ALL of God's creatures deserve humane treatment and responsible care. Our volunteers come from various backgrounds and environments, but they all share the same love for the animals and a desire to find permanent, loving adoptive homes for every lost, abandoned, stray or otherwise unwanted animal. Our founding directors, Candy Martin, RN Steve Martin both worked independently for many years rescuing animals on their own, and have been associated with other rescue groups as well as Animal protective Guilds and Humane Societies. Both recognized some additional needs for our four footed friends which were not being met adequately. C.A.R.E. Group of Ohio, Inc. was formed in the Spring of 2000 to answer those needs and give Candy the opportunities to save many more animals and work with them to find proper loving homes for them. After addressing any medical meeds and vaccinations, evaluation by a veterinarian for heartworm and/or other parasites, all animals are spayed or neutered and placed in foster homes to cared for and loved until suitable adoptive homes can be found. Our little friends are socialized in typical family living environments, and are NOT kept in cages! C.A.R.E. follows a firmly stated NO-KILL policy, and promotes an educational agenda of responsible pet ownership and proper care. To date, our efforts have resulted in the successful adoptions of hundreds of pets! While our foster homes deal mostly with dogs and cats, we also network with other rescuers who handle anything from gerbils to ferrets, bunnies to reptiles, fish to frogs, goats to llamas, horses to cows etc.,etc.. C.A.R.E. has a long term mission to create a permanent NO-KILL sanctuary where any pet not finding an appropriate home may live out its natural life in comfort, being cared for by loving volunteers from educational groups like 4H, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, FFA, Indian Guides, church groups etc. together with C.A.R.E. staff. Our educational agenda will teach and promote spay/neuter programs to counter the overwhelming overpopulation problem, and nutrition guidelines as well as behavior issues and responsible pet ownership.

Donations

C.A.R.E. carries out its mission of love based on the services of CAREing volunteers and on donations from special persons like yourself. We have NO paid staff. Our work requires a constant cash flow to provide food, supplies, transportation and veterinarian care for the hundreds of pets that come through our system. Also, when we save pets from certain death at the county dog pound, we must pay a fee to the pound. Our board has established various levels of donation amounts for adoptions which relates to the investment we have made in each animal while in our care, but, in most cases the donation amount requested does not even come close to covering all our expenses. To date, most of the expenses have been paid "out of pocket" by the founders and staff of C.A.R.E., and on much appreciated gifts from some very special friends. Our veterinarian expenses now exceed thousands of dollars each year, and our need for food and supplies continues to increase as the problem of overpopulation of animals marches on. This in addition to the search for appropriate land to build a permanent pet rescue sanctuary. C.A.R.E. makes every effort to maximize the health of each rescued pet. We use premium grades of dog and cat foods in amounts exceeding a hundred pounds per week. We go through over a hundred pounds per week of cat litter, too; the premium, "scoopable" type. Other supplies needed include newspapers, trash bags, pet shampoo, cleaning supplies, collars, leashes, and the list goes on and on. We accept and encourage donations of all types, especially cash. C.A.R.E. is a non-profit organization, so your donations are tax deductible. Check with your tax advisor. For those who enjoy the blessing of wealth, a charitable trust would be an excellent way to provide for the ongoing work of C.A.R.E., and save many more animals from certain death. If you would like more information on making C.A.R.E. a beneficiery of your blessings and provide for ongoing support, please contact us by clicking HERE. We will be happy to refer you to an independent financial advisor who specializes in planning for such gifts and trusts. Just imagine the wonderful legacy of love remaining in your name for many years to come which would help to insure that the loving mission of C.A.R.E. will continue. We offer our sincer thanks to you for considering your support of our mission for God's creatures .
God has given us dominion over the animals. Genesis 1:28
