"I never met a dog I didn't like."
Canine Poetry
Straight From The Heart......by Arlene Pace
Once I was a lonely dog just looking for a home
I had no place to go...no one to call my own.
I wandered up and down the streets in rain, in heat and snow
I ate whatever I could find. I was always on the go
My skin would itch, my feet were sore my body ached with pain
And no one stopped to give a pat or to gently say my name.
I never saw a loving glance; I was always on the run
for people thought that hurting me was really lots of fun.
And then one day I heard a voice, so gentle, kind and sweet
And arms so soft reached down to me and took me off my feet.
"No one again will hurt you" was whispered in my ear
"You'll have a home to call your own, where you will know no fear."
You will be dry, you will be warm, you'll have enough to eat
And rest assured that when you sleep, your dreams will all be sweet."
I was afraid, I must admit...I've lived so long in fear.
I can't remember when I'd let a human come so near.
And as she tended to my wounds and bathed and brushed my fur
She told me about the rescue group and what it meant to her.
She said, "We are a circle...a line that never ends
"And in the center there is you...protected by new friends.
"And all around you are the ones that check the pounds
And those who share their home after you've been found
And all the other folks are searching near and far
To find the perfect home for you where you can be a star"
She said, "There is a family that's waiting patiently
and pretty soon we'll find them; just you wait and see.
And then they'll join our circle. They'll help to make it grow
So there'll be room for more like you who have no place to go"
I waited very patiently. The days they came and went.
"Today's the day", I thought. "My family will be sent".
Then just when I began to think it wasn't meant to be,
There were people standing there just gazing down at me
I knew them in a heartbeat. I could tell they felt it too.
My Dog......My Friend
When God had made the Earth and sky, And when His work was finished, And so He travelled land and sea, And when all were named upon the Earth, The Father smiled and softly said: Author Unknown May your dwelling be close to the land,
We are a small group of foster homes and not a physical shelter so all the dogs are in private care in our homes unless otherwise indicated in their listing. The special dogs you see at Free Spirit Rescue may be met only after requesting and returning an adoption application at which time you will be contacted to set up an appointment. IMPORTANT!! PLEASE READ!! They may have been someone's beloved pet and that person passed on, leaving them.
They may have been literally thrown out on the streets or dumped in the country to fend for themselves. Some carry baggage from their previous treatment......
most are still able to wag their tails in joy at just seeing you. All they
want in return for the neverending devotion is
They said, "We've been waiting for a special dog like you."
Now every night I say a prayer to all the Gods that be:
"Thank you for the life I live and all you've given me."
And send a Rescue Person to lift them off their feet"........
The flowers and the trees,
He then made all the animals
And all the birds and bees.
Not one was quite the same.
He said, 'I'll walk this earth of mine,
And give each one a name'.
And everywhere He went,
A little creature followed Him
Until his strength was spent.
And in the sky and sea,
The little creature said, 'Dear Lord,
There's not one left for me!'
'I've left you till the end.
I've turned my own name back to front,
And called you DOG, my friend.'
Live simply.
Love generously.
Care deeply.
Speak kindly.
Remember......if a dog was the teacher you would learn things like:
-When loved ones come home always run to greet them.
- Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
- Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.
- Take naps.
- Stretch before rising.
- Run, romp and play daily.
- Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
- Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
- On warm days stop to lie on your back on the grass.
- On hot days drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
- When you're happy dance around and wag your entire body.
- Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
- Be loyal.
- Never pretend to be something you're not.
- If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
- When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently.
It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are."

your meditations deep from the heart;
your dealings with others gentle and kind
and your speech always be true.
May the wind sing to you and the sun rise in your heart........
Who We Are
Free Spirit Rescue is a group of volunteers dedicated to saving dogs and puppies from pounds and shelters and finding "forever" homes for them. These dogs are wonderful companions who are strays or have been abandoned by owners and desperately need a second chance at life.
Countless others are still in dog pounds......lost and lonely and probably on URGENT STATUS......meaning they don't have a whole lot of time there......If indicated that they are in the pound, you NEED TO CONTACT THE POUND DIRECTLY AS THEY MAY BE NEARLY OUT OF TIME!!.....They are all extraordinary dogs, who, through no fault of their own, have become homeless......a very traumatic experience for them to end up locked in a dog pound cage.
fresh food and water every day in a nice clean bowl out of the way of family traffic,
walks whenever you can take them...for as long as you want to walk and oh! joyous car rides, where they can pretend to get anything they see,
a collar with an ID tag sending them back to you in the event they would get lost,
fun times, loving hugs and pats and quiet times, peaceful sleeping time
These are the things that make them happy and in return you get unconditional love and their devotion till the end of their days.
Always your best friend to the end. Thank you.
Adopting a friend
Please request an application from the contact listed for each dog to be considered for adoption. We will respond as promptly as possible. Once your application has been reviewed and your references checked, we will conduct a telephone interview and the final stage of the adoption process will be a home visit. Please complete all information, including vet and personal references and please include phone numbers. All of our dogs are spayed or neutered prior to adoption, have all injections, canine combo shots, kennel cough, rabies, worming, Frontline Plus flea and tick product applied, heartworm tested and are on preventative. The adoption fee helps cover the cost of their medical care so that you will take home a healthy pet. Thank you.
