We have several Pyrs in limbo with our program right now. We are awaiting spay/neuter and vaccination information before we can place them on our site.

Who We Are
We are part of the club in Ohio just for Great Pyrenees called Heart of Ohio Great Pyrenees Club. In this club, there is the Placement Committee and Program. Under this committee, Great Pyrenees in need of a new home are listed. We act as a liason between these dogs and potential adopters. While we do not evaluate the dog or the home in person, there are forms we fill out via telephone on both the adopters end and the original owners end. These forms help us match the right dog to the right home. For example, we will not match a working dog with a home with children and we will not match a Pyr that has been a couch potatoe to a working farm.
There are many advantages of this progarm. First, potential adopters know much more about the potential match of a Pyr because it is in its original home. You know exactly what type of food it is being fed, what type of obedience training it has received, type of fencing it is used to and so on. Also, past experience has shown us that if these dogs do not find a home within a reasonable amount of time, the owners get frustrated and either place them with an unsuitable home or even worse, take them to a shelter. Shelters are not an ideal place for a dog and such a drastic change in the dog's mind is very stressful. By placing a dog from one home directly into another, you reduce the stress on the animal and reduce potential viruses that may be picked up at a shelter.
Our placement committee volunteers are well versed in our breed's characteristics. They are constantly available for any questions along the way and offer many tips on how to evaluate a dog when an adopter is ready to meet a potential match of a Pyr. Also, once the Pyr is adopted, these volunteers are still available to help the transititon go smoothly. Our goal is to find a permanent home for the Pyr; one fully educated on what they are getting into. Afterall, if someone had done that with the owners to begin with, placement wouldn't be necessary.
Adopting a friend
While we have many dogs on our private list, we will refer to those dogs that are spayed or neutered only, and only post those dogs to this site. Right now, no one has sent us that info.

The new club schedule will be done in January at the Annual Meeting. We will post it as soon as it becomes available.
