MEDICAL COSTS

We are a non profit small city shelter- and the medical costs are paid for by fundraisers and donations.

Dogs

Although we do not get nearly as many dogs as cats for adoption we do get some dogs in.

Dogs receive DHLP vaccination, Rabies vaccination, checked for heartworm disease and neutered before they are put up for adoption ( money permitting)

CATS

We do get several cats and kittens throughout the year. This is the bulk of our medical expense because we feel it necessary to have the cat neutered before we put them up for adoption. People seem to feel cats are disposable and let them run wild outside because the cats are harder to track.

All cats and kittens are tested for FIV/FELV and Heartworm disease. They are vaccinated and wormed, checked for ear mites, fleas etc and treated when needed. We do our best to make sure you are getting a healthy pet at a reasonably low price. Our hope is to make sure these abandon animals get a great home.

Please check our website as we try to list the fundraiser events that we have to help raise money to take care of these procedures for the animals. This is how we pay for our medical costs so it is extremely important that we get the word out .

Adopting A Friend

If you are interested in adopting a friend, Please call either Monica or Judy before coming out.

We are both busy with our routine jobs but try to accommodate you during our busy day. However, if you just stop by we may not be able to talk to you without an appointment. Its always best to call ahead and set up a time to come to see the pets we have looking for new homes.

We try to keep our adoption fees to a minimum, however we do try to make sure every pet is fully vaccinated and tested for common disease.

Because we are a volunteer shelter that operates on donations this is not always possible. We do as much as we can for the animal with the money that we have to work with.

we thank each and every one that helps to save animals - and especially those that help us out at our little shelter. Without your generocity and love and care we would not be able to do what we do for these poor dumped animals.

Who We Are

Independence Animal Control Shelter and New Beginning Feline Shelter

We are a small city shelter for the animals that are picked up within out city ONLY.

We would love to do more but do not have the room for a lot of animals.

We run mostly on volunteers and donations.

If you are interested in being a volunteer at the shelter please realize that we do need an adult present and that you must commit to a time space. We ask this because we have trained several people that really did not want to commit to really helping and right now we are looking for adult volunteers that are willing to supervise some young adult children.

At this time we do not have a program set up for young people.

We need people that are willing to clean litter boxes, do basic cleaning and helping with fundraiser events.

Please come and fill out an application if you are willing to commit a to a schedule so that we can start to set up a set volunteer base.
