MISSION STATEMENT

Tender Loving Canine Rescue (TLC Rescue) - Specializing in the American Eskimo is a rescue organization devoted to the American Eskimo. TLC Rescue is devoted to providing charitable and educational services regarding the following:

  • quality shelter and care of unwanted, neglected and/or abused dogs until proper, permanent homes can be found.

  • advice to potential and current dog owners about breed characteristics, proper care, health issues, training and behavior.

All dogs brought into TLC Rescue are examined and treated by Westerville East Animal Hospital in Sunbury, OH. Not only are the dogs examined, but they are also inoculated and spayed or neutered before placement, if necessary.

TLC Rescue believes their is a home for every dog. Before TLC Rescue will place a dog in his/her forever home, we will do our best to make sure their needs, as well as their new owners, meet each other's needs both physically and emotionally. TLC Rescue looks for people with patient and loving hearts and an understanding of their new furkid in mind.

TLC Rescue believes that no dog should be euthanized due to a lack of home. The dogs that are not placed right away will stay at TLC Rescue until a suitable home is found for them.

RESCUE EVENTS

TLC Rescue will be attending Mingle With Our Mutts on the first and third Sunday of each month. This is held at the Franklin County Animal Shelter on Alum Creek in Columbus, OH from 12p-2p.

ADOPTION PROCESS

This must be read before filling out the adoption application.

All applications must be 18 years of age or older to submit an application.

  • TLC Rescue will consider out of area/state adoptions, however, adopter must be prepared to assist with planning transportation for the dog, and agree to pay any and all expenses associated with the transportation.

  • The adoption donation is as follows: $300 for dogs under the age of one; $250 for ages 1-4; $200 for ages 5-9; and $100 for dogs over the age of 10.

  • The adoption donations are used to cover the cost of medical treatments incurred while the dog has been in the possession of TLC Rescue, prior to adoption (i.e., examinations, spay/neuter, vaccinations, heartworm checks and preventative, heartworm treatments, flea preventative, etc)

  • As with any new pet, there will be a short adjustment period when your new dog comes into your home. When you commit to an adoption, we expect that you will work with your new dog and make a sincere effort to tackle any problems that may arise not only during this adjustment period, but also throughout the dog's life. We may be able to offer you some suggestions to help you and your dog through any adjustments or problems. Occasionally, despite the best efforts of all involved, an adoption does not work out. In this case, the dog must be returned to us as stipulated in the adoption agreement. If the dog is returned within three days, there is a full refund. If the dog is returned within seven days, then there is a 50% refund, and past seven days, no refund.

  • TLC Rescue attempts to place our dogs in the best possible home environments. To that end, several interviews (including a telephone interview, review of the adoption application and a home visit to see where the dog will live, play and exercise) will be held between the prospective owners and TLC Rescue volunteers and/or representatives.

  • The interviews and application will help the Adoption Coordinator and the foster parents determine which dog is the most suitable for each applicant.

  • PLEASE NOTE: A submitted application does not guarantee adoption of a dog from TLC Rescue, nor does the application guarantee that the dog an applicant would LIKE to adopt from TLC Rescue is the one that is best suited to meet their needs. TLC Rescue reserves the right to offer the dog that they feel is best suited to match the application.

Submission of your application confirms that you have read and understood the adoption procedures and indicates your agreement to abide by TLC Rescue's terms of adoption.

In order to adopt one of our dogs, you will need to fill out an adoption application. Once the adoption application has been received you will receive notification via email that it has been received and then it will be reviewed. After the application has been reviewed, your vet will be called as a reference. *** Please note: If you do not have a vet because you are a first time pet owner, this will NOT prevent you from being able to adopt one of our dogs. *** The next step is a home visit. After this is completed, then we can make arrangements for you to get your new pet.

    FOSTER HOMES

Foster homes are invaluable to the well being of the rescued American Eskimo. TLC Rescue can not handle the number of dogs in need alone. Without your help, rescue organizations would be unable to continue to rescue dogs and find loving homes for them on such a grand scale. One of the saddest things TLC Rescue hates to do is say no to rescuing a dog due to lack of space. By taking in a dog for TLC Rescue you have essentially saved its life.

Becoming a foster home is no small task. It takes special dedication, love, and understanding. There is more to becoming a good foster parent than just grooming and feeding a dog. You should have a crate, proper equipment and tools to bathe and groom a dog. Have a feeding dish and a place for your new charge to sleep, preferably close to you.

As a foster home, you will be expected to teach your foster manners and to acquaint them with living inside. In addition, you need to determine if the dog can be left alone in the house without exhibiting destructive opportunities for the dog to determine how he/she reacts in different situations.

If you are interested in becoming a foster home, please fill out one of our foster home applications.

We have several fundraisers going on to help raise money for the eskies. ALL proceeds go directly to the care of eskies. Please visit our website: www.tlcrescue.com to learn more about our fundraisers.? Check out our Affiliates Page.
