Rufus was among the first group of dogs to enter the Rescue Program at the Hocking Correctional Facility. Rescued from the end of a logging chain, he spent the rest of his life in "heaven" perched at the end of his handler's bed supervising the other dogs. Rufus - you are our "forever mascot" and you will always be in our hearts.
Founded in 2002, Avalon Animal Rescue is a small private non-profit 501(c)(3) multi-county network of volunteers who believe that every dog deserves a safe, warm, and loving environment. Our rescues are put into short-term foster care while a permanent home is sought. We avidly support and collaborate with other rescue organizations to ensure the best possible chance in finding approprate "forever homes". We have MANY helpers in our support team. SPECAL THANKS to Anne Richardson and the Hocking Correctional Facility inmates and ALL our outstanding foster care providers. But most of all ~ Thanks to you wonderful people who have the compassion to help a dog in need!
Avalon does not have a shelter, per se, but we rely solely on volunteer foster homes. While in foster care, we provide all vet care, food, supplies, and behavior training if necessary. We are always in need of material and monetary donations, and willing foster homes. E-mail us for a foster care application of if you can help in any way.
All adoptions require a home visit, a vet reference, and a $130 adoption fee.
