Please call 419-334-2372, preferably between 8AM and 2PM M-F. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, receive their first shots, and one - year rabies shot upon adoption. The cost (including license for Ohio residents) is only $74.00. Dogs previously altered: $64.00, and dogs adopted by 501(C) $64.00. Previously altered dogs adopted by 501C: $44.00. Sandusky County Dog Warden's Office Adoption Procedure All stray dogs that have reached the state-mandated 72-hour holding period can be adopted on a FIRST COME/FIRST SERVED BASIS. We do not hold dogs or accept deposits on dogs to be held. We realize this procedure is sometimes inconvenient to some of our clients. However, years of providing dogs to the community have shown this to be the fairest and most practical method. Dogs surrendered by their owners may be adopted immediately. To adopt a dog you, or a representative, must sign the adoption papers. Once the adoption papers are signed, we will contact one of our local veterinarians that have agreed to help our office spay and neuter. We will set up an appointment for your new dog to be spay/neutered, receive its “first shots” and its one-year rabies vaccination, all at no charge to you. Any other veterinarian work will be paid by the new dog owner. Your new dog will stay with us until the morning of the appointment. We will then take your new pet to the veterinarian. In most cases, you will be able to pick him or her up the same day. Long-Distance Adoption Help 1.Call Pound 419-334-2372 and ask if dog is still available, as well as any other questions you might have. 2. She cannot help with transport or anything else! Please don't ask. YOU PAY THROUGH Sandy’s PAYPAL ACCOUNT Paypal charges Sandy a 3% processing fee 3. CALL PAW PATCH VET CLINIC (419-547-9403) BEFORE YOU PAY FOR THE DOG TO MAKE SURE THEY HAVE SPACE TO VET & BOARD THE DOG YOU ARE PLANNING ON RESCUING UNTIL YOU CAN PICK HIM / HER UP. If they say yes, they will ask for your credit card number. ASK PAW PATCH AHEAD OF TIME WHAT THE BOARDING FEE WILL BE. THEY WILL ASK FOR YOUR CREDIT CARD NUMBER and will want to know the date you are planning on picking the dog up. Discuss with Paw Patch any additional vetting you'd like charged to your credit card, if any, such as heartworm test, bordetella, worming, etc. The Sandusky County Dog Shelter wishes to see ALL dogs adopted or reunited with their owners. However, approximately 75% of our dogs are stray, and we know very little about them other than what we can observe. We do not have cats in the shelter, and socialization between the dogs is limited due to staff and monetary constraints, including veterinarian costs should a dog be injured. We wish to see everyone adopt a dog from our shelter who wishes to, but it is most important to us that it be an adoption that is safe for you and your family, and a dog that fits into your family. We believe in being very honest with people regarding what can be determined in the shelter about a dog's behavior, but keep in mind their behavior may change in another environment. If we have a doubt about the dog's ability to get along with children, cats, or other dogs we mark it as such. Dogs not marked, we simply do not know.We are an animal control facility, so you must keep in mind many of our dogs are at the shelter because they have a problem. Our presence on petfinder.com is normally maintained by volunteers, but, from time to time, the Director fills in when volunteers are not available. Please keep in mind we do not have veterinarians, vet techs, or behaviorists on our staff due to lack of sufficient funds. The information given about our dogs is purely from observation of people who have experience with dogs. Thanks for your consideration and visiting our site, and we truly hope you find a pet that you can enjoy for years to come.
