Who We Are

We are the Humane Society of Ottawa County (HSOC). We are a non-profit animal shelter with facilities to shelter and find new homes for cats and dogs. We receive NO government funding and rely on donations and adoption fees to keep us going. Our goal is to turn unwanted, uncared for and abused animals into loving members of new families. We are dedicated to a program of spaying and neutering animals to ensure that more animals find their way into caring homes. We maintain a "NO KILL" standard within humane guidelines.

Adopting a friend

NEWLY UPDATED ADOPTION FEES: Cats $35.00, kittens $25.00, Dogs $85.00, Puppies (under 6mo) $95.00
All animals have received their shots, worming, blood tests and spay/neutering by the time they are available for adoption. An adoption application must be filled out in order to be considered as an adoptive parent. We reserve the right to deny an adoption if there is any question as to whether the animal will be receiving a good home.

ROBIN VESS APPEAL DENIED, ANIMAL CRUELTY CONVICTION UPHELD BY SIXTH DISTRICT COURT OF APPEALS

On June 24th, 2011, the Sixth District Court of Appeals in Toledo found an appeal filed by convicted animal abuser Robin Vess to be without merit. Following an HSOC investigation and intervention, Robin Vess was convicted at trial of 42 counts of cruelty toward her stable of horses in April, 2010. Last summer Vess was sentenced to serve 42 days in jail, additional suspended jail time, and over seven thousand dollars in fines and costs. This sentence was stayed pending appeal. Vess' appeal, filed by notorious Cleveland Attorney Leonard Yelsky was denied as a whole by the Sixth District Court of Appeals in Toledo, which affirmed the rulings of the Ottawa County Municipal Court and the HSOC. This decision was expected, but is lauded as a victory for the animals of Ottawa County. The HSOC will continue its work in caring for abandoned, neglected and abused animals! We are always in need of shelter volunteers and volunteers to help with dogwalking, light gardening and other tasks as we prepare the property for our upcoming expansion. With the shelter scheduled to double in size, now would be a special time to get involved in this exciing project which will help us provide the best care imaginable for the animals of Ottawa County!
