HSDC is a non-profit organization devoted to helping animals in need. From dogs and cats to horses, rabbits, and ferrets, we care for all of our furry friends!
Adopting a friend
The most rewarding service we offer here at the Humane Society of Delaware County is our pet adoption program. We stand by our belief that these animals are our pets until they become yours, so we get to know the personality and name of each and every animal. Our friendly staff enjoys matchmaking prospective owners
with just the right pet...
so feel free to ask for our assistance!
It takes about ten minutes to fill out the application and to process the adoption. You will be asked to fill out a two-page application and take our "Are you ready to adopt?" quiz. You must be 21 years old. If you are renting, we may need to verify that you are allowed to own pets, so be prepared to have your landlord's phone number handy. We will also need proof your current pets are up-to-date on vaccines and spayed or neutered.
Most animals are ready to go home the same day, so be prepared to have a pet travel with you. We do sell cat carriers and cat "starter kits". You may also purchase a dog collar and leash to get your dog home safely.
HSDC reserves the right to refuse any adoption and has the right to repossess any animal if it is endangered or neglected. if information on the application has been falsified, or if the owner fails to get the animal spayed or neutered.
We want this to be a great adoption experience for both you and your new pet - so please
seriously consider the commitment beforehand.
So, if you have some room in your heart -- and home -- for another addition to your family, please consider adopting one of the wonderful pets listed on our site.
