The Original Ohio Basset Rescue, Inc. is an all volunteer, non-profit corporation dedicated to helping the homeless Hounds of Ohio. Our mission is to rescue stray, abandoned and/or abused Bassets and place them in loving homes. We take Bassets from shelters and pounds all over the state as our foster space permits. Because we are a volunteer organization we do not have a shelter that you can come and visit. We have foster homes throughout Ohio. We believe in providing loving home settings for the Bassets in our care. The advantage of adopting a fostered animal is that we know all about our adoptable pets! They have lived with us and we know their personalities, habits, likes and dislikes. Our goal is not to sell pets to people, but rather to find permanent, loving homes for our fosters. The needs of the dogs come first.
Ohio Basset Rescue has a wonderful new program called Foster to Adopt The Foster to Adopt program is when you apply to foster a dog with the possible intent on adopting him/her. You are able to take that special fur-baby home and see how he works out with your family. You can assess his behaviors and determine if he is a good fit with your family. You will be able to determine if you and him/her are the right match for that lifetime commitment that the special basset requires. How better to determine if he gets along with your cat, dog and children? You then are able to decide if he is the fur-baby for you. Your family can decide whether to adopt him or allow another special family the opportunity to adopt him/her.If you decide to allow another special family to adopt him/her you will need to foster that special basset until adopted. Unless of course there is a concern within your household. If you allow another family to adopt him/her you may then choose another special basset to foster. There is no limit on he amount of bassets you foster until you find that special someone. We also offer you the chance to allow us to be put down as contact to answer the questions people have about your foster basset until you are comfortable doing this. Please apply now and mark on your application Foster to Adopt. Please be patient with us as this a very popular program and we have many applications to process. Online Adoption Application
OBR adoption applications will not be processed if the form is not completed in full for online and for mail in applications as well. The information provided in the adoption application will help us find the best hound for you and your family. We will check with your veterinarian as to the consistency in the level of care that your current animals receive. We also will check with your landlord (if you rent the property on which you reside) to verify that you are permitted to have an animal at your residence.
Potential adopters WILL NOT be permitted to set up a meeting with a rescue dog in a foster home until they have an approved application with Ohio Basset Hound Rescue. Once the potential adopter has an approved application, then arrangements will be made to have them meet with the rescue dog at the foster home. If you are not able to drive to the foster home to meet the dog you are interested in, please don't ask us to meet you with the dog, or transport it to you. You must meet the dog at the foster home and the foster home needs to meet you !!!
A donation fee is required and will be payable at the time of adoption and Ohio Basset Rescue reserves the right to change its fees with notifcation
The adopting family also will be required to sign an adoption contract at the time of the adoption. All dogs are spayed/neutered; innoculated (includes rabies, distemper series combination), heartworm tested and kept on monthly heartworm preventative prior to adoption. This is the basic care that each hound receives. If any additional medical treatment/attention is needed, OBR will provide that to the hound at the direction of our veterinarians (ie. dental, heartworm treatment for those who test positive, deworming, etc.).
Please note that Adoption Applications may take 7-10 business days to process. Potential adopters will be contacted by one of our volunteers either by telephone or email with the status of their application, once the application has been processed and reviewed.
If you have a question about completing the application or are wondering about the status of an application you have submitted or need us to snail mail you an application :
