Our Mission

Our mission is to care for and to provide temporary and indefinite shelter for homeless and abandoned dogs and cats by promoting and sponsoring animal welfare education programs, adoptions, preventive veterinary care, and a mandatory spay/neuter program, with emphasis on a "no kill" policy for its animals.

The Rescue operates with a small, but highly dedicated staff, plus a host of loyal volunteers who generously contribute their time, talents, and skills to the Rescue's operation. We are a 501 (c3) nonprofit organization.

From very humble beginnings, the Toledo Animal Rescue has grown with a new building, dedicated in 2004, to provide the best possible care for all our animals. We are one of the most highly-recognized and well-respected animal adoption agencies that serve metropolitan Toledo and the surrounding region.

The Toledo Animal Rescue, located on the south side of Toledo, is dedicated to the care and adoption of unwanted and homeless animals since our founding in 1927. Toledo's Oldest No-Kill Shelter.

There are no time limits for animals at our Rescue. Animals remain available for adoption as long as they remain physically and mentally healthy, and of sound temperament.

Adoption Policy

Steps to Take:

Please visit the Rescue website to see all of our available animals
If you see an animal you are interested in please submit an adoption application. Once we have received that application we will review it, and call you to schedule an appointment to come and meet our animals!
On the application, if you do not have a veterinarian reference, please consider one you may be using.
Adoption visits may or may not happen on the same day. Adoption approval may take a few days.
On the Day of Adoption:

If you are adopting a dog, please bring a carrier and/or leash and collar with you to pick up your pet.
If you are adopting a cat, you will be required to bring a carrier.
Animals are not deemed adopted until all paperwork has been processed, fees paid, and the animal is released.
Adoption Fees Cover the Following:

Up to date shots/vaccinations for the pet's age
Deworming
Heartworm test (dogs over 6 months)
FIV/FeLeuk test (cats)
Petlink Microchip
Spay/Neuter
Includes free vet exam within 2 weeks after adoption. All animals are spayed or neutered before adoption.
Please note there’s no such thing as a “free pet.” Such medical procedures performed by the Rescue would cost well over $300 at an animal hospital.
