Who We Are
We are Paws and Prayers. Our primary mission is to rescue, care for, and find loving homes for homeless cats and dogs. Our secondary goal is to make sure all of these animals are spayed or neutered. It is a big task, but we are ready! Paws and Prayers is based in the Northeast Ohio region. We operate as a non-profit, incorporated organization that functions solely on the efforts of foster homes and adoption volunteers. As such, we may not always be able to respond to your emails and applications immediately. We are all volunteers, and will do the best we can to get back to you in a timely fashion. Please allow us one week to respond to your inquiries. Thank you.

Would you like to be added to our weekly email?

Every Friday we send out an email listing of all our available pets and our weekend events. If you would like to be kept "in the loop", just let us know. This email is a great way for you to help our pets. Simply forward it on to ANYONE you know that is looking for a pet!! Our Featured Dog...
Maximus--- HELPt Clyde - Clyde is a sweet Lab mix who is 3 years old (birth date 05/03/05). He is approximately 55 pounds, up to date on his shots, neutered, good with other dogs, and housebroken. Clyde needs a new family. He is currently being fostered by K-9 Solutions of Akron. He is learning manners and a few tricks! They do a fantastic job with dogs and are also available for follow up work after adoption. If you are interested in adopting Clyde, please email pawsandprayers@neo.rr.com and PLEASE DO OUR APPLICATION ON LINE.
Our Featured Dog...
Maximus--- HELPt Grace - Grace is just that, a sweet touch of Grace from Heaven sent. She is a sweet girl who is great with even little ones. She has lived with toddlers and behaves nicely. She would do best with a male dog if you have a second dog and would be okay with cats. We are trying to find a good home for her soon as she can only stay so long in the foster home she is in. She is spayed and up to date on her shots. She is two and one half to three years old and weighs 35-40 pounds. Seeing her in person is better than this shot as she is much prettier in person. She does well with the gentle leader and is very obedient. Maybe you are the right home for "Amazing Grace"........ For more information, email us . Please fill out an application.

Adopting a Friend
Since we operate solely out of foster homes and have no permanent shelter, you will need to make an appointment to meet an animal or you can visit us at one of our Petsmart public showings. We show some of our available dogs and do adoptions most weekends at the Chapel Hill Petsmart, located at 355 Howe Road, in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Generally, we are there Saturdays from 12-2 pm and Sundays from 12-2 pm. Be there when we are and get your NEW BEST FRIEND! Remember, you can still schedule individual showings with dogs you would like to meet.

If you are interested in meeting and possibly adopting one of our lovely animals, please email us. If you are serious about adopting, you will need to fill out an application. We charge $125 for dog adoptions (with the exception of certain pure breed dogs which we charge up to $200 for at this time due to staggering medical costs; these will be listed in their write ups) and $90 for cats (we do very few cats unless we get a one-time foster who is willing to keep the cat until placement). This goes towards the cost of rescuing and medical expenses, which includes spaying or neutering. We are sorry to tell you that, after much consideration, we made the decision not to adopt dogs to renters. Most of the calls we receive for owner surrenders are renters who are moving or whose landlords will no longer tolerate a dog. The reason most people give who are dropping off dogs at the pound is that they are moving and cannot keep the dog.

How YOU Can Help
We are always looking for fosters and adoption volunteers. Fosters are people who are willing to open up their hearts and homes to nurture and care for a rescued animal until a permanent home can be found. It is up to the discretion of the foster on whether a dog can be adopted out of state. Many of them want to keep in contact with the pet and out of state adoptions make this a little more difficult. Please contact the email address listed with the pet as that is the foster person's email address in most cases. Paws and Prayers assists with food and pays for the medical care of the animals. Adoption volunteers assist the fosters by making runs to the vet, promoting the organization, and bringing animals to showings at places like Petsmart. Many of the animals we rescue are in dire need of medical care. We also ensure that the animals are spayed or neutered before they are adopted. These expenses add up! Our adoption fee helps cover at least some of this cost. However, donations are always much appreciated and put towards a very good cause!

* HELP! Many may ask where the adoption fee goes. The medical care, including shots, tests, and spay/neuter, generally exceed the fee. In addition, some of the animals we take require critical care as they have not been treated medically in some time. If you can help us at all, please send your donation to: Paws and Prayers Pet Rescue, P.O. Box 2864, Akron, Ohio 44309. We would appreciate any help you can give! *

The Top Ten Reasons to Adopt an Older Dog

1. Older dogs are housetrained. You won't have to go through the difficult stages of housetraining and cleaning up after accidents.
2. Older dogs are not teething puppies, and won't chew your shoes and furniture while growing up.
3. Older dogs can focus well because they've mellowed. Therefore, they learn quickly.
4. Older dogs have learned what "no" means. If they hadn't learned it, they wouldn't have gotten to be "older" dogs.
5. Older dogs settle in easily, because they've learned what it takes to get along with others and become part of a pack.
6. Older dogs are good at giving love. They are grateful for the second chance they've been given.
7. Older dogs have grown into their shape and personality. Puppies can grow up to be quite different from what they seemed at first.
8. Older dogs are instant companions -- ready for hiking, car trips, and other things you like to do.
9. Older dogs leave you time for yourself. They don't make the demands on your time and attention that puppies and young dogs do.
10. Older dogs let you get a good night's sleep because they're accustomed to human schedules.

Special Thanks
We would like to express a special thanks to the Home Savings Bank in Brimfield, Ohio, for allowing Paws & Prayers the opportunity to show some of our adoptable cats to the public. We appreciate their kindness and genuine love of animals!
