Being a responsible pet owner helps to control the pet overpopulation problem. The shelter has received a grant from the Cesar Millan Foundation and STILL has funds available to help with the costs of altering your dog. Please contact the shelter at 419-592-3777 for more information on this money saving grant!

Anyone interested in adopting a pet from HCHS must fill out an Adoption Questionnaire. The Adoption Specialists then interview the potential adopter. During the 24 hour waiting period, a background check is completed and a dog is checked for Heartworm and/or a cat is checked for feline leukemia. The Animal Care Technicians and the Adoption Specialists make sure that the best possible match between potential owner and pet is accomplished.
Adoption fees include the cost to spay or neuter the animal. Dogs receive a heartworm check, DHPP vaccination (includes distempter, hepatitis, parvo & parainfluenze), physical at local veterinarian office, microchip and current dog license.
All dogs that will remain in Ohio are required to have a current dog license when leaving the shelter and this cost is included in the adoption fee.
In addition to being spayed or neutered, cats also receive a feline leukemia check and FVRC vaccination (includes distemper, rhinotracheitis & calicivirus), and a physical by a local vet.
