Tri-Lakes Humane Society

We speak for those who cannot

The Tri-Lakes Humane Society is located in beautiful Saranac Lake, NY, in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains. Our mission is to provide shelter to all stray and unwanted companion and domestic animals. We work toward educating the public about proper animal care, including spaying and neutering, providing adequate outdoor housing, food & water, veterinarian care, and the many different state and local laws and ordinances that a pet owner should be made aware of and abide by.

Our Humane Society is a Non-Profit 501(c)3 organization, and is maintained as a No-Kill facility. We are proud to say that we have placed over 3000 animals into new homes, and reunited over 1000 animals with their owners, since 2001. Our day to day goal is to provide the best temporary home and compassionate care for our shelter animals until they are adopted into new forever homes.

We feed and recommend Hill's Science Diet.

Spay & Neuter Program

The Tri-Lakes Humane Society provides financial assistance vouchers to pet owners in our local, rural communities who may be unable to afford the full cost of the surgery on their own. We work with 10 area Veterinary Hospitals and Clinics to provide assistance to low income pet owners in Franklin, Essex, Hamilton and Clinton counties in Northern NY. A list of the participating Veterinary Hospitals and Clinics is provided when each voucher is mailed to a pet owner. The amount of the voucher depends on the type and gender of the animal. The voucher amount is deducted from the final cost of the surgery.

Here are our current financial aid voucher amounts:

Male Cat $35 Female Cat $50
Male Dog $50 Female Dog $75

A portion of our Spay/Neuter Program has been funded by a $5,000 grant we received from the ASPCA in April 2013. The grant money was available through the NYS Animal Population Control Program Fund ($1 from every Town dog license issued for a spayed/neutered dog, $3 from every unspayed/unneutered dog goes into this fund).
We are very excited and proud to have received the $5,000 grant that has allowed us to continue to assist pet owners afford the spay or neuter cost for their dogs and cats in our local communities in our area.
We were able to provide 275 spay/neuter vouchers in 2013 thanks to the ASPCA grant money and donations we collected throughout the year!!!

Ways You Can Help

The Tri-Lakes Humane Society is a small, non-profit 501(c)3, privately operated and funded no-kill facility.
We rely on the generosity of our community and supporters to keep our doors open.
All donations are tax-deductible, and are always needed to support our tasks of healing, caring and providing for the homeless animals in our facility each day as we work towards finding them new adoptive homes.

Other Ways to Help

* Donate items off of our Wish List, which includes pet food, pet supplies, cleaning supplies and more. Any items donated will help us take good care of our animals, keep the shelter clean and office functional to be able to adopt out animals.

* Remember us in your estate planning. Our Board of Directors can assist you with information.

* Make a contribution in memory, or in honor of, a loved one or special pet.

* If you can not adopt a new pet, consider sponsoring one! Our Sponsor-A-Pet program allows supporters to mail or drop off special donated items or financial support for a particular TLHS animal. By sponsoring a pet you can help pay for that animal's spay or neuter surgery, vaccinations, medical treatments and testing, as well as food, while they are being cared for at our shelter. Some of our sponsors like to drop off comfy beds or blankets, treats, toys to provide their sponsored pet with extra comfort. Please contact us for more information.

* Consider becoming a guild member to help with our fundraising and adoption events.

Donate your time and energy to becoming a TLHS Volunteer and come spend quality time with our shelter animals.

We are always looking for volunteers to come to our Humane Society. If you have spare time, either on a regular or occasional basis, we can use your help! The animals love having visitors, and enjoy having extra attention they receive from volunteers. If you are a dog person, we welcome people to come and walk the dogs on our Dog Trail that winds through the woods on our property. Dogs can also be taken out into our 2 outdoor play yards to play ball and run around. We also look for people to help us with basic training. If cats are more your speed, then you can spend time with our feline friends and you can please them by offering them treats, grooming and affection. We also accept help around the shelter with feeding, cleaning kennels and organizing.
