Common questions regarding out of state dogs:
Why do Rochester rescues bring dogs in from out of state when we have dogs here in NY that need us?
Simple answer...Rochester and our surrounding cities do not have problems finding homes for their homeless adoptable dogs. If a shelter in our area does have a problem placing a dog, then we rescue him/her. This situation rarely happens here in Rochester, however, other states it is a monumental problem. Some dog shelters in Ohio have euthanizing rates as high as 80%. They do not have the same programs and ideas as we do in regards to spaying and neutering and the unwanted dogs should not have to pay for that.
Aren't rescues bringing in foreign parasites or sickness when they bring dogs in from out of state?
Each dog is taken to the vet and checked before they even get to Rochester. In order to get transported, each dog needs a health certificate and a visit by a vet to make sure they are healthy enough to travel. Many times, rescues even have all of the vetting done out of state, so once the dogs get to their rescue they are ready to be adopted. This helps the rescue to save other dogs.
Who We Are
HOPE of NY is a pet rescue run exclusively by dedicated and loving volunteers.
Most of the dogs that come into our program are rescued from high kill shelters from out of state. The cats that we rescue are mostly owner surrender
All of the dogs/cats that come into our rescue are examined by a Veterinarian, receive vaccinations and are spayed/neutered and given a microchip before being placed in approved homes.
All of our rescued pets live comfortably in loving foster homes.
HOPE of NY provides all necessary supplies ,if needed, for each animal in foster care until they find their forever homes.
All rescues are temperament screened and trained with simple commands by their foster families.
Potential adopters are required to provide a Vet reference and meet HOPE of NY requirements before adopting.
HOPE of NY is committed to giving these precious "throw-a-ways" a second chance at a great life.
Adopting a friend
If you are interested in one of HOPE's rescued pets please visit our website (http://www.hopeofny.com) to fill out our adoption application.
Once the adoption application is received, one of the volunteers will review it and call you to set up an appointment to meet the pet. At the visit, the pet and you will get to know each other as well as the HOPE representative. If the rescued pet and you appear to be a good match then we proceed with the rest of the adoption process: which can include a home visit as well as a vet reference. HOPE has the sole responsibility to make sure each of our rescued pets finds their perfect forever home and we do not take that responsibility lightly. All of our rescued pets have been dumped by people they loved and trusted and we try to make sure that does not happen again for them.
Come Visit Us!
HOPE does not have a shelter to house their rescued pets in. Each of our rescued pets is living in loving foster homes usually consisting of other dogs, cats, and sometimes children. We place them in foster homes to ensure that they start to learn basic training as well as to remember what living in a warm and loving environment is like.
