Black Dog Second Chance Rescue
Adoption event every third Saturday at Pet Supplies Plus on Sheridan Drive in Amherst. From 11-2.... Come meet your new friend!
Meet Chance! Chance is a 6 month old adorable, friendly puppy who wound up in a rural Kentucky shelter. He was on the euthanasia list because nobody would adopt him. You see, Chance has mange. But it's Demodectic mange, and it is totally not contagious. It is passed down from mom to pup. However, it made him unadoptable, but not in our eyes. His personality is the best. For a pup, he's really laid back and friendly. I brought him for his first vet appointment and he just chilled. He's happy to be alive and loves to stop and smell the roses. He'd really love to find his forever home, soon. Could that be you? We are accepting donations on Chance's behalf, his vet bills will get expensive!
Foster homes needed immediately! Urgent! Urgent! Urgent! Dogs are being euthanized in shelters and you can make a difference!
Who We Are
We don't just rescue black dogs! We basically rescue any dog that most rescues pass over. Most of them just happen to be black, but some of them are not.
For whatever reason, people do not like black dogs. They are rarely adopted from shelters and the most commonly euthanized. They are frequently ignored even though they may be friendly and well behaved, while the other lighter-colored dogs get adopted quickly. Whatever the reason, it is true, these dogs generally wait THREE TIMES longer to finally be adopted. In turn, the shelters give up on them and they are euthanized. Our mission is to rescue these black dogs, just moments before euthanasia, and help them find their forever homes through an adoption process. Although our 501 status is pending, we work solely on a volunteer basis and any money donated to our organization goes to pay for much needed vet bills. Please note we are incorporated in the State of New York. Please consider adopting a black dog today.
News
Foster homes needed immediately!
Are you considering becoming a foster for one of our dogs? The more fosters we have, the more dogs we can save. We cannot pull a dog moments before euthanasia unless we have a place to put them! Please open your hearts and doors to one of our wonderful black dogs! A foster is someone who holds the dog, in their house, until an application is approved. Sometimes this could be for a week, sometimes a few weeks, sometimes longer. The dogs may have to be potty trained, may need to work on some manners such as sit or wait for food, but all dogs will repay you with love and kisses. If you are interested in becoming a foster, please email: info@blackdogsecondchance.org
We need donations!
We need the following items immediately:
dry dog food, canned dog food, dog crates (large or extra large), blankets or towels, dog kennel or dog run (the chain link fence type), leashes, collars, papertowels and newspapers.
All donations may be done through the button on this page, or may be mailed. All donations will be used for the rescued pets. All funds go towards supplies and vet bills.
If you would like to mail a donation, checks may be made out to: Black Dog, Second Chance and may be sent to: PO Box 304, Cheektowaga, NY 14225
Adopting a friend
All of our dogs/cats for adoption have been spayed/neutered and up to date on shots. We are careful with our placements, so we try to find the best possible match for both the dog and the adopter. Our adoption fee is $150 for dogs and $175 for puppies under 6 months of age; $50-75 for kittens and cats. We require a vet reference and a home visit, to be sure your new friend feels comfortable in their new environment and gets along well with everyone in your family.
We also have a "foster to adopt" program. If you find a dog you are interested in, but are reluctant to "take that leap" you can foster him or her! You would foster for two weeks, if things work out, we proceed with the adoption. If you feel it is not a right match for you, you foster the dog until another adoption or foster takes place. Then we can find you the right dog when one comes along. This has been a very successful program in the past and tends to reduce a lot of anxiety for the new family when they are looking for that new friend.
Come Visit Us!
Please note that we do not operate a shelter. All of our dogs and cats are temporarily placed in loving foster homes with families, so please email us to set up an appointment to meet your new friend!
