ADOPTIONS HAVE SLOWED TERRIBLY!!

Little Shelter Animal Rescue in Huntington has cared for abandoned and homeless animals since 1927. This time of every is generally our busiest with adoptions - however, this year our adoptions have been very slow. The less adoptions we do, the fewer animals we can save from the streets or local town shelters because there just isn't enough room. If you have been thinking of adopting, please come down and meet all the wonderful dogs/cats/puppies and kittens that are awaiting their forever homes and make one a new member of your family.

Please contact our Adoption Office for information regarding adopting 631 368-8770 x208

About Little Shelter

Little Shelter is a no-kill animal shelter in Huntington, NY. With the help of a large volunteer staff, we take abused and abandoned animals from the streets and from municipal pounds when they are to be euthanized. We provide a safe, caring and nurturing environment for these animals while they are awaiting homes. Cats live communally in our new cattery facility and dogs receive daily sessions of training, socialization and exercise away from their kennel rooms. Every adult dog and cat has a name and staff and volunteers get to know the individual animals that come into our care. All prospective homes and families are carefully screened to ensure happy endings. Little Shelter has served the animals and people of Long Island since 1927 and placed over 2000 dogs, cats, kittens and puppies into loving homes last year.

THAT SPECIAL TOUCH FROM LITTLE SHELTER

If you are thinking of adding a pet to your life, please consider one of our shelter animals. Besides the fact that all of our wonderful dogs, cats, puppies and kittens are examined by a veterinarian, inoculated and spayed or neutered before adoption, Little Shelter stands ready to help for the lifetime of every Little Shelter animal. If, at any time, there is a problem or questions, Little Shelter can provide training assistance and advice in an effort to ensure our adoptions are happy ones.

VOLUNTEER AND ITEM DONATION INFORMATION

VOLUNTEERS

There is so much to do and not enough volunteers or funds to accomplish our goals for all the wonderful animals at the Shelter and the other homeless ones still "out there".

How can YOU get involved and commit your time and abilities to making a difference? Volunteers are needed for "hands-on" work with dogs and cats, helping trap feral cats for our neutering program, do clerical and computer work, fundraising and public relations, special events, foster care, landscaping and so on. As of 1/31/01 we are in special need of volunteers to assist with data entry on our new Dog Adoption Computer Program. If you do it, we need it! We have monthly volunteer orientation meetings on the first Monday of every month . Please give us a call to let us know you will be there.

ITEM DONATIONS

Little Shelter has an on-going need for the following items to be donated:

newspapers, dog and cat food (canned or dry), blankets, small throw rugs, rawhide treats, stuffed toys and cat play toys.

We are also currently looking for donations of wooden or plastic dog houses for placement in abandoned areas. These houses will provide shelter to stray or lost dogs during the cold winter months.
