Adopt a Degu now, and we'll waive the adoption fee!
Degus make a great first pet and are easy to care for.
STAR Foundation has moved into a facility that we recently renovated for animal rescue and rehabilitation functions. This new space also allows us to hold volunteer meetings and training sessions.
Who We Are
STAR (Save the Animals Rescue) Foundation is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) all volunteer organization, specializing in injured and orphaned wildlife and domestic animals. Many of our adoptable pets have special needs. Volunteers that work with wildlife are licensed rehabilitators, and we also network with other wildlife rehabilitators on Long Island. Some of our volunteers foster rescued animals in their homes. STAR also runs PetLine, a lost & found pet hotline service. STAR Foundation has been Rescuing Long Island's Animals since 1994. To learn more, visit STAR Foundation's website.
Adopting a Friend
It is important to ensure a perfect match for our adopted pets and their families. All applicants must go through an approval process which consists of submtting an application, an interview, meeting the pet, a home visit, and an adoption agreement. We also follow up afterwards to ensure that all is going well for the pets and their new owners. Because of the requirement for a home visit, please understand we do not adopt animals outside of Long Island. A donation fee is requested to assist in our mission of animal rescue & care and for providing medical treatment.
Come Visit Us!
Some of our adoptable animals are in private foster homes, and some are in the new facility. If you would like to meet any of our wonderful pets, please complete an Adoption Application to arrange a visit. Please email us with any questions you may have. We are a sanctuary and not a traditional animal shelter that is open to the public. All visits to STAR Foundation are by appointment only.
