Featured Pet..... SANDY...a dog's dog.

Sandy came to us from a shelter in North Carolina. She had been caught as a puppy and brought to the dog pound where a volunteer pulled her and put her into boarding to keep her safe. That's where she was when we found her posting and we decided to rescue her and have her transported to us in NY. We don't know what could have happened to her in this short amount of time as she was only 4 months old but she arrived a frightened puppy. She is terrified of human touch and it is only through time and patience that she will finally take a treat from our hand and let us scratch her under her chin. She is a very smart dog and is completely housetrained. She will scratch and cry at the door to go out, she will go into her crate for a treat when you say "kennel up" and she is working on sit. She loves the other dogs here and we recommend she go to a home with other dogs to make her feel comfortable. She will go in and out if she has another dog to join her but trying to get her to walk past you without the comfort of her doggy friends is hard to do. She has to go to a home with a fenced in yard for this reason. So far we haven't been able to get her to walk on a leash but we are still working on that. Sandy needs a home where she will have the time to get to know you slowly. She is not a cuddly kind of dog but would make a great palymate for your current dog. She just needs someone to love her on her terms and give her a chance to learn that she will be safe forever.

Who We Are

I am an animal advocate and have been helping animals for over 20 years. I volunteered in the rescue of animals in New Orleans after hurricane Katrina. It was then that I knew I wanted to focus on this full time so I began the process of starting my own rescue. I do know that one person doing their part, no matter how large or small, can make a difference.

I have met so many gracious, deserving pets over the years and try to give back the love and trust they put in me by giving them a better life than where they came from and "Another Chance" to find a forever home. I have met many dedicated people from all over the U.S. doing what they can to improve the lives of many formerly unwanted pets. I have fallen in love with my FOSTER FURRIES over the years and although it is always hard to let them go, just thinking of the next one needing to be saved helps me continue. I do this in my own home where I get to know each and every one of them very well and can make the best matches into new families. They all stay in my home and become part of the "pack" until their own family can be found. I do this with the help of my husband, Ray, who is a retired Firefighter. We recieved our 501c3 non-profit status in 2007 so donations are tax deductible. Donations are needed to help with the vet bills and to keep my rescue going. We are volunteers so every dollar goes into caring for the animals.

Adopting a friend

ANYONE CONSIDERING ADOPTION OF AN ANIMAL PLEASE READ:

THANK YOU for considering adoption of one of our rescued animals. We have an eight step adoption procedure. Making our adopters aware of the steps initially makes the process proceed easier. The eight steps are:

1. Selecting an animal, or animals, from our website on PetFinder that would be the potential new member to the adopters family.

2. Email us at papillon1254@rochester.rr.com and let us know whom you are interested in adopting and a little about yourself.

3. We will respond to your email and send out an application attached to an email. You will fill out the application and email it back to us.

4. We review your application, contact your references and contact your vets office with questions about previous pets health care. Please be patient as it may take up to a week to get back to you. Our main focus is the care of the animals in our home.

5. We will select the applicants that would possibly be the best match up with the personality and needs of the perspective pet. We then invite those applicants to schedule an interview with the pet in our home, and we ask that all family members be present.

6. We will evaluate the possible adopter(s) interaction and satisfaction with the pet and the animal reactions to their future family. Also, any questions or concerns are addressed at this time.

7. Once you have met the animals we will get back to you to schedule a home visit if we think it is a good match. This is to see where the living area will be, how the toileting needs will be met, and that the adopting family is ready to make the commitment to bring this new member into their family and give it the love and care it will need for the rest of it's life. We have occasionally adopted out of our area in the past so please let us know if this is the case.

8. The last step is to either take the pet into your home at that time or schedule a future date to pickup the pet at our home, sign a contract with us concerning the pets future needs and continual well being and pay the adoption fee.

We cannot stress enough that our goal is to find the best possible home for the animals we rescue. We never know the whole story of what these poor animals have been through when we receive them and start providing love and care for them. BUT, we can do everything in our power to make sure that they have the best possible future. And that means a loving, caring, forever home.

Adoption fees vary and spay/neuter deposits are required for all puppies and kittens. Older cats and dogs are spayed and neutered before adoption. PLEASE EMAIL ME WITH ANY QUESTIONS OR TO REQUEST AN APPLICATION.
