Who We Are
Godspeed Horse Hostel, Inc. is rescuing CanAm horses from PMU farms in Canada, and neglected or unwanted horses in the tri-state region.
CanAm is a relatively new term given to horses bred on PMU farms in Canada. What is PMU? It stands for pregnant mare urine and it's the source for Premarin®, a hormone replacement drug prescribed for menopausal women around the world. There are approximately 450 PMU farms operating in Canada and the United States today. This industry has been around for more than 50 years, and has resulted in the birth each year of nearly 30,000 unwanted foals. These foals are often sent to the slaughterhouse.
CanAm horses primarily consist of one or more of the following bloodlines: thoroughbred, draft, or warm-blood. They are eligible to be registered with the Performance Horse Registry through NAERIC. They are quickly becoming popular in the sporting arena and on the hunting field. "These are wonderful horses," said Genovesi. "Many of the PMU foals have outstanding pedigrees and are incredible prospects for professionals and amateurs alike."
Godspeed Horse Hostel, Inc. is "a different kind of rescue". Due to the costs of purchasing these horses, transportation, castration, and training the adoption fee is higher than some rescues. All adoption fee proceeds go to purchasing more CanAm horses. Please contact us for more information.
Adopting a friend
To ensure that we are adopting out happy horses that will fit your needs each horse receives training before leaving Godspeed Horse Hostel, Inc. Based on the cost of acquiring these horses at slaughterhouse prices, transportation costs from Canada and the time and training involved an adoption fee of $3,500 to $6,000 will be charged per horse.
Under special circumstances where the adoptee will provide an approved trainer to meet the needs of the horse and the guidelines of Godspeed Horse Hostel, Inc.'s training program and early adoption can be arranged. If you are willing and capable of meeting these requirements please call for further details.

Due to a recent move from NY to TN please understand that getting the horses settled and the barn unpacked will take lots of time and effort. We appreciate and value each email or phone call but, given the big changes at this time we may not be able to get back to you in a timely manner. We anticipate having internet service and being back to a 'normal' schedule by mid November 2008 when we will have more time to devote to administrative duties.
