Who We Are

The primary purpose of Rudy's Rescue is to help find homes for dogs in need. Our focus is on Yellow Labrador Retrievers. However, we will help with other colors and breeds when space allows. It is our wish that someday, every animal will have a place to call home, and we will no longer be needed. We are volunteers who hold many different jobs in "real" life. Many of us have previous experience with other rescue groups and have chosen to support Labrador Retrievers.
What we do - Rescue dogs of good temperament and find them new homes; Educate the public about the "good" ways to obtain a companion animal; Assist with common questions and referrals; Contribute to and assist with the growing interconnection between rescue groups, shelters and others working with homeless animals. We will publish contact information for rescues and shelters in our area.
We strive to convince the public to consider adoption first. If that is not possible we encourage the public to obtain a puppy or older dog from a responsible, reputable breeder. We work with the public to stress the importance of spay/neuter programs and do not allow any pet(s) to leave our rescue without first being spayed or neutered. We have plans to build a home where our adopted animals can return for a short vacation, grooming or hike on the trails. Currently, we work out of our own homes.
Rudy's Rescue is a New York state not for profit corporation with IRS 501 (c) 3 status. This will classify us as a public charity. We rely solely on donations from caring individuals.

Adopting a friend

YOU MUST HAVE AN APPROVED APPLICATION ON FILE BEFORE MEETING ANY OF OUR DOGS. We are not a shelter; each of the animals you see listed with Rudy’s Rescue is kept in a loving foster home. They are given training, veterinary care, love, and the attention they require and they are evaluated to insure we find the best match for the future family. Adoptions through our rescue require an application process, please do not ask to see a dog until you have filled out an application, provided references and had a home visit. There is a $25 application donation required which will be applied to your adoption fee when you find your new friend. We thank you for this donation as it helps us fund transporting, veterinary expenses, and supplies for the dogs we rescue and make available for adoption. Once you have an approved application we will work with you to find the best dog for your lifestyle and family needs. We cannot guarantee that a dog you see on our list will be available; please start your application process early so you will be eligible to adopt when you see a dog that touches your heart. Due to our required home visit, we only adopt to homes within 60 miles of Rochester, including the Buffalo and Syracuse area. We do have volunteers in a few outlying areas, please send us an email to check on your location. Please email rescuemom@rochester.rr.com to see if you are in our adoption area. This process may take two weeks or more if you are not within the Rochester or Syracuse area. Please be patient, good things come to those who wait.

RUDY'S RESCUE ADOPTION APPLICATION FORM

In an effort to increase adoptions and ensure the dog you are interested in is just the right fit for you, the Foster To Adopt Program allows fully approved adopters to have a taste of what life with their new companion will be. Those interested in the program will go through the regular application approval process. Once approved, the potential adopter may take home the dog they are interested in for 7-10 days for a $25 non-refundable donation. After the 7-10 day period, should you want to adopt the dog, the $25 donation will be applied to the dog's adoption fee and the final payment is due within 14 days of the start of your foster to adopt period. For puppies under 6 months of age, the foster to adopt option is not available. Otherwise, the dog is returned to Rudy's Rescue and you can feel good knowing you have helped with the dog's vet and care expenses. YOU MUST HAVE AN APPROVED APPLICATION ON FILE BEFORE MEETING ANY OF OUR DOGS.
Our adoption fee for dogs 1-7 years of age is $250; for dogs under a year, $350; and $200 for dogs seven years or older, or for dogs with serious handicaps. Since we are a volunteer organization funded entirely by contributions, we count on your continuing support as well as your adoption fees to help defray the costs of caring for our foster dogs. We are delighted to accept any amounts over these minimum fees to help other dogs in our care.

How You Can Help

FOSTER HOMES, VOLUNTEERS, SPONSORS are always needed. Rudy's Rescue was established in Rochester, NY in 2006 and we are the only rescue in the area focused on the Labrador breed. There are many Labs in need and we are able to help because of the support of people like you. Please help to save a Labrador by becoming a volunteer foster home with Rudy’s Rescue. Temporary homes are needed for adult dogs, seniors and puppies. You will work with our foster coordinator to find the right foster for you and your family. If you cannot foster a dog in your home, perhaps you can pay to have a dog boarded at a local facility until their permanent home is found.
What is a foster home? A foster home is a safe place for our dogs to stay while their new permanent home is found. This keeps the dogs out of the shelter environment, sometimes saving them from death. They begin their journey in a home where they can once again begin to bond with people. Labrador Retrievers are a social breed. They long to be in a home with someone to love. A foster parent provides food, water, shelter, love, basic training, toys or any other daily need the dog/puppy may have during their temporary stay at your home. Veterinary bills and visits are handled by Rudy’s Rescue and are not the foster homes responsibility. If your foster has a medical emergency while in your care, all approved vet visits will be reimbursed by Rudy’s Rescue. Click here to help
