Who we are....
Stray Haven Humane Society is located at 194 Shepard Rd Waverly, NY. Stray Haven has been offering a safe haven for animals for over 39 years! We pride ourselves in saving 100% of the adoptable animals that come through our doors each year.
What we do...
Stray Haven is a small, private Humane Soceity that operates in the rural area of Tioga County, NY. Although we are a little out of the way, we offer only the most modern services to the public. Stray Haven employs a staff with many years of experience in all areas of animal care and handling. All employees are trained in safe animal handling and all are educated on animal behavior. This offers the public the rare opportunity to ask questions and get real answers about available animals.
Stray Haven has an active adoption program, animal cruelty investigation, humane education, low income spay/neuter clinic, stray cat alteration service, pet therapy and low cost obedience classes for the public. Our animals come from owners who can no longer keep their pet or are picked up by Tioga County dog control officers and brought to our shelter. We hold all stray animals for 5 days.
If stray animals are not claimed by their previous owners, we begin the process of determining if they can be put up for adoption. Dogs are put through a series of temperament testing to determine adoptablity and what kind of home they would be best suited for, as well as given the necessary shots needed. Cats are given enough time to settle into a new environment and are then tested for socialblity with humans, cats and dogs. Once tested and given necessary shots, it is put into a community cage with other cats. Our community cages are set up like small apartments. Adopters are able to enter these cages to interact with the cats. This helps adopters to see the personality of the individual cats in hopes to find the right match for their family.
If you have a complaint or concern involving animal cruelty please call Cindy Webster 607-565-2859, If you leave a message on our answering machine please leave the address and full details and your name & phone number. (you will remain anonymous).
If you have a domestic animal you would like to turn over to Stray Haven please call the office first at 607-565-2859 and make sure there is cage space available.Donation required.
We are overwhelmed with cats and kittens at this time, please call ahead to make sure there is space before you bring in a cat or kittens, Thank you
PLEASE BE A RESPONSABLE PET OWNER have your pets spayed or neutered. Please do not add to the pet population. Area shelters are so overwhelmed with cats and kittens that are unwanted at this time, it is appaling at how many cats are left behind to become pregnant and fend for themselves with nowwhere to go and no food , they become the target for disease, cruelty and starvation . The overpopulation of cats is increasing. Do your part and don't add to the problem. There are many resourses for spay and neuters. Stray Haven also offers a spay and neuter clinic. ask for Judi 607-565-2859
We have chosen Kuranda dog beds for our boarding facilities because they are so good for our dogs. We still don't have enough for all of our kennels. If you would like to donate a bed so another dog can sleep in proper comfort, please click here.
ANIMAL ANGELS Sponsor a Cage

By sponsoriing a cat or dog cage any animal who needs that cage will always have an Animal Angel. For about $1.00 per day you can help. Animal Angels will recieve a plaque on their dog or cat cage with their name and town. Please help us to continue giving daily care to the hundreds of animals that pass through our shelter every year. All donations are tax deductible.
