Who We Are
We are a small rescue group who have become especially enamored of the breeds commonly known as "pit bull terriers" with their clownish, loyal, affectionate personalities and athletic prowess.
Our current mission at Care N Compassion Pit Bull Rescue is to help rehome a limited number of pit bull terriers whose owners cannot keep them and who might otherwise end up euthanized or in a shelter if a new home is not found.
We are not currently taking in dogs. Rather, we try to rehome the dogs whose guardians can no longer keep them directly into their new screened home by assessing the dog's needs and matching with potential homes seeking to adopt a pet. We are always delighted when we make a match, and a life is saved!
If you absolutely cannot keep your dog due to circumstances beyond your control, please contact us with a description of the dog and your situation, and we will do what we can to help find a new home for your dog. We will then place the dog under our adoption contract which protects the dog's future. We also provide referrals to other pit bull rescues if a person is in a desperate situation requiring immediate sanctuary for a dog. Please do not rehome lightly; these dogs do get very attached to their guardians, and they deserve commitment. Think carefully about your decision and whether work with a trainer or crating or some other solution migh solve any problems you are having.
Speaking of training, we also courtesy list rescued dogs for Peg Colonna of The Upper Paw Professional Dog Training and Rescue Service. Peg would be happy to assist you with your dog training needs or with an inquiry on one of her rescued pit bull terriers. Please contact Peg directly if the dog you see on the site is one of her rescues. It will be noted on that dog's page. Ask her about her dog training work or one of her rescued dogs by writing to her at theupperpaw2@aol.com
Adopting a friend
Please read up on the breed on www.pbrc.net (Pit Bull Rescue Central) and www.badrap.org and www.animalfarmfoundation.org There are some excellent articles on breed traits, care, etc. Pit bull terriers make excellent pets, but they are a special responsibility and are not for everyone.
Please think carefully about the time you have available to devote to your new friend and be ready to adopt for a lifetime. While we do stand ready to rehome a dog you adopt from us if it doesn't work out as well as expected, it is best for the dogs to find their permanent homes right away, and it is our goal to make good matches the first time around.

Meeting a Dog
We show dogs by appointment only. The first step is for you to fill out an application. Email us to request an application. All adoption decisions are ultimately up to our rescue group, we must approve all adoptions, we do not operate on a "first come first serve" basis but evaluate all applicants and decide what is best for the dogs we rescue. This is not meant to discourage you in any way, but simply to be clear that we must make the tough decisions about where our dogs go, and we sometimes have to turn down applicants. We must weigh a variety of factors, such as type of housing, number of children in the home and ages, to determine which placements are appropriate. Prior to finalizing an adoption, a home visit will be required so we can see where the dog would be living and get better acquainted with you.
Thank you for considering a rescued dog; these grateful dogs will love you forever!
