LETTER FROM THE MANAGER: Its been a great November with all this sunshine and mild temps. Its hard to believe that fall is here already and right behind that is winter and christmas. We have been busier than usual this year at the shelter. Our intakes have increased greatly from years past, especially puppies and kittens. The number of Dog Control intakes has increased as our economy has decreased. We have had several successful fundraisers to help support our shelter goals. Cruelty call from all over the county have also kept us busy. All of this on top of our dailey routine of cleaning, feeding, bathing, medicating and caring for all our residents. and with a staff of seven and a handful of dedicated volunteers, a motivated board and fundraising committee, we manage to make it all work.
With our building over flowing with cats and dogs, these new arrivals have to be bathed and cleaned up, if you would like to volunteer to come bathe our dogs, please contact us, we would gladly accept any help you can give us. We also need volunteers to help clean cat cages, so if your in the market for something to do, please contact us here at the shelter!
As the number of animals increase in our shelter so does our need of supplies like: lysol/pine-sol, lysol spray,Bleach, Liquid laundry soap, Window cleaner, paper towels, Dog blankets,Dog collars, Cat collars, Leashes, cat litter, Pine Shavings, Fleas treatment, printer paper, printer ink, colored and white index cards, Business envelopes, Stamps, AA Batteries, and monetary donations. Please help us out, your donations are tax deductible and can be dropped off at the shelter anytime. Monetary donations may be sent in the mail to PO BOX 381, Wellsville, NY. 14895 We have a new Cruelty number, 585-610-2265. Cruelty calls are still keeping us busy. When you are calling in please be prepared to give your name and a phone number so we can contact you if we have further questions. Please have an address or good directions to the place you want checked out. PLEASE think about it before calling, Make sure this is a true cruelty case and not just a way to cause your neighbor or friend, who has made you mad, problems. This wastes our time and money, it also takes attention away from the true cruelty cases. We thank you for caring about the animals who don't have a voice. Also please understand that we can only enforce the laws as they are written, If you do not like the laws please don't yell at us, contact your government body. We do not always like the laws or think they are fair to the animals but they are all we have to enforce at this time. Also we don't always have the time to call each person back who has made a complaint and give them a report on what has been done, please don't think we are ignoring your calls! We want to send a big thank you out to our cruelty hotline operator Bernie Harris. This lady for the last several years has been the voice behind that phone call you have made. She has helped in getting the animals of Allegany County into safe shelter and proper care. Bernie has decided its time to retire. We will miss her very much! Happy Retirement Bernie.
Our Newsletter should have reached you and if not stop by the shelter and pick up your copy. We have enclosed a donation envelope, we hope all of you will help us by sending a donation so we can continue to help the animals. Thank you all so much for your support.
