Today's featured pet is a cat named Renegade. He was brought to the shelter by our Emergency driver after being struck by a car on 5/3/09. Dr. Gerbers office came to the rescue once again and performed an x-ray which showed he had a severely broken jaw and a fractured tooth. Dr. Gerber had to wire his jaw closed so it could heal properly. He slowly recovered at the Shelter, receiving antibiotics and eating soft, canned food that he could just manage to sip through the opening left from the jaw wiring. (Just a note: we are at the height of kitten season and go through large amounts of canned food. Renegade went through two cases alone. If you can, when you visit the shelter, please try to donate any canned cat food you can or Purina Kitten Chow in the yellow bags. We are in GREAT need and it is very much appreciated!!!!!) He healed very well and was soon able to handle dry cat food again. His re-check at Dr. Gerber's showed he was no longer in need of any medicine. After further rest & recovery he had a final appointment at Dr. Gerber's where a second x-ray showed everything had healed nicely. The jaw wire was removed and he is now ready for adoption. Thank you SO much to Dr. Gerber and staff. Renegade is a little thin due to his ordeal but a little pampering should bring his weight back up in no time. Despite all he has been through, he is a very happy and gentle kitty. Being that he is declawed we hope his new family understands that letting him outdoors is extra dangerous to him. He needs an indoor home only and a family to spoil him!!!
