VOLUNTEERS ARE ALWAYS NEEDED!!

We are always in need of volunteers to help with the daily chores of cleaning, feeding, watering and socializing our animals. In addition to the daily tasks, there are many other areas where volunteers can be involved. Please click on "volunteer job descriptions" for a list of areas in which we can use volunteers. Our minimum age requirement for volunteers is 14 years old. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must authorize your ability to volunteer and sign a liability waiver. Who We Are

The Jefferson County S.P.C.A. is a non-profit organization that was founded over 112 years ago to help protect and care for domestic animals in Jefferson County. We are the only No-Kill facility in the area, as well as being the only shelter to accept cats in the county. Our shelter is the primary abuse investigation organization, and is the site of the only early-age spay/neuter before adoption program in Jefferson county. As a non-profit organization, we exist on the donations that we receive from the general public as well as from our varied fundraising events.

The Jefferson Co. S.P.C.A. accepts animals on a space available basis. The animals need to be assessed by a shelter staff member before a final decision of acceptance can be made. Assessments for animals to be released are done Monday thru Friday 9 am to 12 pm. A montary donation is requested at the time of relinquishment.

Our Goals

Our goals include reducing the number of unwanted companion animals in Jefferson County. It is equally important to our organization to reduce the amount of animal abuse and neglect that is committed in this area. In addition, we are actively involved in public awareness and education at all age levels. We are also actively striving to provide a better quality of life for those animals entering a shelter environment, as well as a better quality of pet to those adopting from our shelter.

Adopting a Friend

Adoption Rates:

Dog, puppy, kitten - $100.00
Adult Cats $70.00
Ferret - $80.00
Small animals vary depending upon whether the cage is included or not.

All of our dogs and cats have had their 1st vaccination, 1st worming, rabies if over 3 months, have been spayed/neutered, treated for fleas and ear mites, and receives a free vet visit! New to the shelter is the microchip. All dogs and cats will be microchiped with a Homeagain microchip before adoption. The Homegain microchip is recognized nation wide and is responsible for reuniting 1000's of lost animals with their owners.

Our shelter can no longer accept personal checks. We do accept Visa, Mastercard, and Discover, as well as cash.
