Long Island Golden Retriever Rescue, Inc. (LIGRR) is a non-profit organization operated exclusively by volunteers dedicated to improving the quality of life of Golden Retrievers who are neglected, abused, or abandoned. Services are also provided to owners who can no longer care for their Golden Retriever. It is our mission to provide veterinary care and loving adoptive homes for any Golden in need - no matter whether the dog is a young puppy or a senior citizen
Adopting a friend
If you believe that a Golden Retriever is the perfect match for you, your family and your lifestyle, and would like to adopt a Rescue, we would love to hear from you. Our adoption procedure requires that you complete an adoption application and sign an adoption contract. You can receive these forms in one of two ways.
Call 516-578-3803, leave your name and address, and the forms will be mailed to you.
You can find the appropriate forms by following the links to the left (Adoption and Contract).
We do not place our rescued dogs into homes on a first-come, first-served basis. All adoption applications are screened and every effort is made to match the right dog with its new family. Some adoptions happen within days, others can take several months. As a general rule, the more restrictions placed on the type of dog desired (age, sex, etc.), the longer the wait.
Adoption fees and donations are used exclusively to defray the costs of our rescue efforts and enable us to continue to help Golden Retrievers in need.
Whenever possible, all dogs are vaccinated, heartworm tested, spayed / neutered, and given a general health exam prior to adoption.
If, for any reason, you or a member of your family can no longer care for your rescued Golden, we ask that the dog be returned to Long Island Golden Retriever Rescue.
LIGRR reserves the right to refuse any adoption application.
