Finger Lakes Dog Protection Agency

Our Pet List

Who We Are:

Carl Collier is the Dog Control Officer and runs a shelter serving 20 towns and villages in Cayuga County including The City of Auburn in Central New York State. He is also the county's rabies guy and also occasionally rescues wildlife. His wife, daughters, and nephew help run the show, along with their shelter attendant Tom.

Adopting a friend:

How It Works:

  1. You see a dog you like.
  2. Contact us for a preliminary phone consultation. We want to get to know you and tell you more about the dog before you come see it in person. There's no sense in wasting your time if the match won't work from the start. It's also very stressful for the dogs to have strangers in and out of the kennel.
  3. If your application is approved and we feel it's a good match, we set up an appointment for you to come and meet the dog.
  4. We allow a 24 hour "think it over" period, or you can usually take the dog home at the time you meet it. There is no rush and no pressure. We want to make sure the match is the best it can be so you are happy and the dog doesn't have to come back to us.

Visiting Us:

We do not have regular shelter hours and require a phone interview before and reference check before setting up an appointment to meet a dog. It is very stressful for the dogs to have people coming in and out of the kennel, and it's not the best way to meet a dog anyway.
