
The Ulster County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is a private, non-profit organization devoted to protecting animals by investigating and prosecuting animal cruelty, sheltering animals for adoption, promoting humane education and legislation, and by maintaining a low-cost cat spay/neuter clinic for the community. Established in 1891, the Ulster County SPCA is chartered by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to provide cruelty investigating in Ulster County, New York. The Ulster County SPCA is a private organization which receives no municipal, county, or state funding. The Ulster County SPCA relies on donations and memberships for its financial survival. Every animal that is adopted from the Ulster County SPCA receives inoculations, de-worming and is spayed or neutered before going to their new home. Cats receive a Feline Leukemia and Feline Aids test and dogs receive a Heartworm test. The adoption fee for a dog is $150.00 and includes a dog license, rabies tag and collar. The adoption fee for a cat is $95.00 and includes a cat carrier. The UCSPCA accepts cash and major credit cards only for the adoption fee. There is a 24 hour hold on all animals. Adopted cats will be picked up the following day, adopted dogs can go home following a home visit by a shelter representitive. Animals adopted on Sunday will be picked up on Tuesday as the shelter is closed on Monday. If you are interested in adopting a companion animal you will be required to fill out an adoption application and be interviewed by an adoptions counselor, so please arrive at the shelter at least an hour before closing to allow for this process.
Our on-site spay/neuter clinic opened in December of 1998 offering community resident's low-cost sterilization for cats. The spay/neuter fee is $55 per cat. Rabies and other vaccines are available, but require an additional fee. To schedule a spay/neuter appointment or to inquire about additional vaccines offered please call 845-331-5377 and dial extension 16.
Our adoption hours are Tuesday, 11:30-6 and Wed thru Sunday 11:30am-3:30pm or by appointment. Both the dog kennels and cat room close at 3:30 pm. Our Adoption Center is located at 20 Wiedy Road, Kingston, New York.
Directions: NY State Thruway to Kingston exit 19. Take traffic circle to Washington Avenue to first traffic light and make a left on to Sawkill Road. Go to first intersection and make a right onto Brabrant Road. Follow UCSPCA signs to the shelter. From Dutchess County take Route 209 south to Sawkill Road exit. Make a left onto Sawkill. Stay on Sawkill until you reach Brabrant. Make a left onto Brabrant and follow directions as listed above.
