WHO WE ARE

The MCSPCA is a PRIVATE NOT-FOR-PROFIT organization that provides a safe haven for lost, abused, abandoned and unwanted pets. Currently the shelter can accomodate 21 dogs and 40 cats. We survive solely on donations and the goodwill of the community.
WE ARE NOT AFFILATED WITH ANY GOVERNMENT AGENCY AND DO NOT RECIEVE ANY GOVERNMENT FUNDING. Check our website: www.mc-spca.org
for the many ways you can make a much need donation. We seek to inform pet owners and potential pet owners of the standards for responsible pet ownership through various educational programs. We also conduct outreach programs such as our Domestic Violence Safe Shelter for Pets program with Catholic Charities of Montgomery County. We also have our Annual Prancin' Paws Dog Walk to intoduce some of our pets to the members of the community and have a lots of fun at the same time. The MCSPCA cooperates fully with local law enforcement officials in investigating cruelty to animal cases and assisting in prosecuting violators to the full extent of the law. PLEASE, contact your local law enforcement agency to report any suspected animal abuse.

ADOPTING A FRIEND

Applications may be obtained in person at the shelter or downloaded from our website.
As of JULY 1, 2008 - Our ADOPTION FEES are $125.00 for kittens and cats,
$150.00 for dogs and puppies. All adopted pets will now be microchipped!
SENIOR PETS - ADOPTION FEES ARE REDUCED BY 50%
for PETS who are 7 years and older
We participate in the PURINA PETS FOR SENIORS PROGRAM
for adopters who are over 60 years old

You will need to bring a leash and collar for your new dog or a cat carrier for your new cat.
If you do not have one you can purchase one at the shelter for a minimal fee.

All animals over 4 months must be vaccinated for rabies. All animals will have received their AGE APPRORIATE shots when they are adopted. Any additional vaccinations are the responsibilty of the new owner. Dogs will be tested for Heartworm, Cats will be tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV (feline AIDS). Dogs MUST be licensed prior to adoption. All animals have already been spayed or neutered before they leave the shelter or you will receive a voucher for this. A $35 spay/neuter deposit will be refunded upon veterinarian proof of altering. If you rent you must bring written proof that the landlord allows pets.

Potential adopters, volunteers, and visitors may come to the shelter, our hours are:
Monday &Tuesday: WE'RE CLOSED
Wed,Thur, & Friday: 12 noon - 4pm
Saturday and Sunday: 11am - 3 pm

DIRECTIONS:

The shelter is located on Route 5-S approximately 1.5 miles east of Route 30. If exiting the NYS thruway at the Amsterdam exit (#27), bear right after paying toll, keep to the right and go up the ramp to Route 5-S, turn right heading east on 5-S for 1.5 miles. The shelter is on the right hand side of the road.
