Amber's Angels Rescue is small animal rescue located in Goldens Bridge, NY. The rescue is apart of Goldens Bridge Veterinary Care Center’s community outreach programs. In our twenty-year history we have placed hundreds of pets in forever loving homes. Amber's Angels takes in animals that have been relinquished, hoarded, abused and or neglected or animals that need rescue from high- kill shelters down south. Rescued pets are medically treated, behaviorally evaluated socialized, trained and loved as we search for well-matched homes.  Adopters receive their pets’ medical records, training plans and pet food to help make transition into their new homes a smooth as possible. Ongoing medical and training advice is provided for the lifetime of the pet.

Adopting A Friend

Adoption Guidelines:

Please email us for an application.

Our adoption fees vary from $100 to $400 depending on each animal’s medical, behavioral needs and vet care.

All adoptions require am approved application/contract, a vet reference and three personal references.

We adopt only in the Tri-State Area.

Fosters and volunteers welcome. All fosters will be screened with the same process used for our adopters!

To be considered as an adopter, you must:
•              Be 21 years of age
•              Have identification showing your present address
•              Have the knowledge and consent of your landlord
•              Be able and willing to spend the time and money necessary to provide medical treatment and proper care and training of the pet and be willing to sign an adoption contract stating such.
Once your adoption application has been approved, there are a few things you should do to prepare for your new addition.
Bringing your pet home for the first time:
1.  Make sure you obtain all of your new pets’ medical records.
2. Bring the appropriate size collar, leash or crate for your new pet to go home.
3.  Decide where your pet will stay in your home and purchase any gates or barriers you may need. You should provide one litter box per cat the bigger the better. Cats seem to prefer unscented sand litter or cheap clay litter.
4. Obtain the appropriate-sized crate for your new dog. Crates should be large enough for the dog to be comfortable in for several hours. Put a non-tip water bowl and a soft, absorbent blanket in the crate.
5. Communicate with Amber's Angels to make sure you get the same food and treats the pet has been eating. *Changing diets quickly can cause dietary upset*

To Get Off to a Great Start:

Put a cozy bed for your pet in every room. Pets are much more likely to keep off of furniture if they have attractive alternatives.
Until your pet learns your house rules, don’t give him or unsupervised access to rooms with rugs, sofas, beds or any other furniture. Please remember to increase your pet’s roaming privileges slowly, room by room (going from restriction to complete freedom can set a pet up to fail.)

The first few days you may want to leave a short leash on your dog incase the dog tries to hop up on furniture or tries to get away from you. Use dog crates and gates to confine your new dog when home alone until his house manners earn him unsupervised freedom.
1.   Provide plenty of “legal” things for your dog to chew. If he has attractive toys and bones of his own, he’ll be much less likely to chew on your things.
2.     If you are bringing a kitty home; provide a variety of scratching posts and perches—cat trees can be very helpful.
3.  Be sure to give your dog at least 30 minutes of aerobic exercise—running, fetching, playing or swimming—each day. A tired dog will be much less likely to engage in destructive behavior. A busy dog will be much better behaved, too. Consider feeding your pet in food-puzzle toys when he has to stay home alone. They are also known as interactive toys.  You can find these type of toys online or in your local pet store.  If he spends his time working for his chow, he’ll be less likely to look for other ways to alleviate his boredom.

*Depending on the pet it may take them 7-20 days to adjust to their new home*
