Adopting A Friend
We have an extensive application process with vet reference, personal references and home visit required. We are all apartment dwellers and we are NOT snobs about city living. I myself was turned down by a beagle rescue 10 years ago because I didn't have a fenced in yard (or any yard). I adopted my beagle from the city pound and she has the best life a dog could wish for - with three-four walks a day at a huge park a block from my apartment. I have met with many city dwellers who are so grateful to be treated with respect and not immediately condemned for not having a house with a fenced yard.
What we care about most is that you will provide a stable, loving and safe home for the dog you adopt. All of our dogs are fully vetted prior to adoption and we expect adopters to keep the dogs healthy and up to date on shots, flea and heartworm preventative as well as to treat any illnesses which may come up. Adopting a dog is a financial commitment and we expect that the dog you adopt will be on par with your other family members in terms of health care and overall care. These dogs have been through hell and they are loving and sweet and deserve the best.
We have an adoption application and contract and a fee of $450 per dog adoption. Trust me, we lose quite a bit of money doing this as the adoption fees barely cover basic vetting, boarding and transport, and often times we pay for extensive extra vetting before the dog is ready for adoption. If you think this fee is too high, I suggest you adopt from a larger shelter with more financial resources.
Who We Are
Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue is composed of a network of fosters and volunteers that work together to rescue sweet, loving, adoptable dogs from high kill, rural shelters in the south. We then bring those pups up north to be adopted by approved adopters. We are an all volunteer organization.
Mission
Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue is composed of a network of fosters and volunteers that work together to rescue sweet, loving, adoptable dogs from high kill, rural shelters in the south. All of the dogs we rescue were saved from euthanization.
We spay/neuter (age appropriate), vaccinate (age appropriate), provide flea and heartworm preventative and get them transported north to foster and forever homes. We want the dogs to be in the best possible adoptive home, so we take our time and are diligent in finding the right match.
We are always strapped for resources (money, time, space) so if you can donate any of those things, please let us know - if you foster a dog that allows us to save another, if you pay the vet bills for a dog, that allows us to pay the vet bills for another, if you spend time helping place a dog, that allows us to spend time placing another.
