Eleventh Hour Rescue-NY is a volunteer and foster based organization. We do not have a kennel. We invite you to review the adoption process and fill out an application as well as see our dogs available for adoption.
First, take a look at our available dogs. If you have an interest in one (or more) of our dogs, please call us or fill out an on-line adoption application. Filling out the adoption application in no way obligates you to a dog, but simply gives us more information about what you are looking for. Once received, a volunteer will contact you regarding your interest. This is a great opportunity for you and your family to learn more about the dog’s personality and for us to learn more about your family and the expectations you have of a new family member. For example: Do you have an active family that likes to hike or run? Or are you looking for a quieter family member to cuddle with or provide companionship? Our goal is to make a life-long match between your family and your new family member.
The next step is to arrange a meet and great. Either the interested family can meet the dog at an adoption clinic or a private introduction can be arranged at the foster home or at the perspective family’s home. This is a great opportunity for the perspective new family member to meet all the two-legged and potentially four-legged existing family members!
If it looks like a good match and all family members agree, the next step is to complete an adoption contract. Part of the contract includes a trial placement which usually lasts 14-20 days. This is an opportunity for your new family member to settle in. The adoption fee is $250. ALL EHR-NY dogs are:
Now the Eleventh Hour Rescue-NY journey begins. Within 24 hours of taking your new family member home, the foster home will contact you to make sure the transition went well and answer any potential questions. In fact, during the entire trial period, the foster home will continue to be in contact with you on a routine basis until the adoption is finalized. Why is that? Our foster homes do their best to learn about and expose their fosters to routine family living. However, in their forever home, dogs may experience things that they haven’t experienced in their previous or foster homes. For example, do you have cats? Do you ride motorcycles (and the noise is loud)? What happens during a thunderstorm? EHR-NY has a wonderful network of resources to help with any questions or concerns.
We LOVE updates! We LOVE news! We LOVE visits! Speaking as a foster home, there is nothing more rewarding then to get a visit, email or picture from an adoptive home. So many of these dogs were literally minutes away from euthanisa. Others were strays with no hope. They come into a foster home and learn to trust, learn they are safe. They may even learn how to play for the very first time! But once in their adoptive homes, they really blossom. So share the news! Share the stories! We will forward them on to all those that played a part in their resuce (the shelter, the transporter, the vet, other rescuers). Everyone loves to read how they played a small part in the rescue of a special dog!
Approximately 7 million pets will die this year in shelters across the US. Some die humanely with lethal injection, some will be thrown into a gas chamber and die a slow, frightening death, some will be shot, or beaten. They will die with a feeling of abandonment, lonesomeness, and fear. Yet, these dogs are real, they are living... breathing... beings that crave love, companionship, and trust, while offering the same in return. They do feel pain, hunger and sadness and we do what we do because we want to make a difference. If we can bring comfort to just one, we will. If we can save just one life, we will. The stories we read and each dog's story is heart-wrenching, the numbers of those we can't help are overwhelming, and everyday we are haunted by the faces of those we can't save.
Eleventh Hour Rescue-NY is made up of dedicated individuals who believe that innocent pets deserve love and a place to live where they are honored and cared for. No dog deserves to die simply because it does not have a home. We rescue dogs at their Eleventh Hour--when they are scheduled to be put to death by shelters that can no longer care for them. We give the dogs all the medical attention they require, a place to live, and through our adoption services, a second chance at a happy and fulfilled life. We are affiliated with many like-minded animal groups throughout the United States.
Eleventh Hour Rescue-NY is always looking for good foster homes. Fostering is not as difficult or heart wrenching as you may think! The end result is fantastic and you've played a major part in finding a forever home for a dog that would otherwise have been euthanized. All you need to do is care for a deserving animal in your home and help him or her find their way to their forever homes. We cover all medical expenses, you provide the love.
