Where do we get our dogs?
Majority of our dogs come from high kill shelters. Some are owner surrender or strays. All of the dogs that come into our rescue have been in high emergency situations where they would not be wagging their tails. We work with a lot of shelters in the south as well as on long island. We have wonderful people who dedicate their time to the dogs and transport them into our long island foster homes.
What happens to the dog after we accept it into the program?
All of the dogs first go to see a vet. Once they receive a clean bill of health the go into a home. We normally give each dog at least a week in a home with qualified trainer before we place the dog into a foster. We really like to have the dogs house broken and to have at least started basic obedience training. After the trainer we place the dog into its new foster home until it finds its forever home.
What do we test for in a dog before adopting them into a home?
All of our dogs are carefully evaluated by a trainer before we take them. We look at the overall temperament.
On the initial meeting the dogs are tested for:
-okay with being touched and handled
-good with dogs and cats
-amount of training needed
Long Road Home Rescue, Inc is a fully incorporated non-profit rescue. All of the people from our little family love dogs! We a dedicated to helping every dog that has been over looked in a shelter or a home.
We are completely foster based and always need more foster parents or volunteers who want to work with our dogs. We do have trainers who evaluate and rehabilitate our dogs.
Please help us continue our work by sponsoring a dog or donating your old dog beds.
Because we are a rescue group not a shelter cannot have people visit our dogs without an appointment. Please contact Debbie at 516 459 3509 or email Ksusha are firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in fostering or adopting any our dogs. We do ask that you fill out an application before we set a meet and greet. Please get in touch with us and we would be more than happy to get you an application.
Want to Help Our Rescue Family?
We are always in need of foster homes for our dogs. Fostering is the way our rescue is able to continue our work. Without loving and dedicated people who are willing to give a piece of their home to a dog for a little amount of time we would never able to do what we do. If you are interested in fostering a dog or would like more information please reach out today! We promise nothing feels more for filling than knowing you are helping to save a life.
If you cannot foster we understand! We could still use your help doing house visits and events. We are always looking for ways to reach out the community. There are so many events and expos we would love to go to but just dont have the time. If you are interested in getting a little bit of volunteering done please contact us. We need people who are interested in talking about our rescue and promoting our work.
