In Memory
of Al MacIntosh
To the family of Al MacIntosh, we extend our heartfelt sympathy in the loss of your brother and uncle ... and in the loss of our friend. I have known Al for the past two and a half years through his love and devoted care for his cat friends at his apartment. All of the cats knew him and trusted him. Al was such a huge support to our group, and with his help we were able to have all of the cats at our Dartmouth colony spayed and neutered and the kittens found wonderful homes. Any time we were at the property, Al was there to chat with us and to give us updates on the cats... he knew them all by name, knew their habits and when they would be arriving for a meal! The success we had with the cats was all because of Al and his dedication in making sure they were all well cared for.
We were so deeply shocked and saddened to learn of his sudden death and we will miss him tremendously... we will miss his friendship and the many chats we had ... and the way his eyes lit up when he talked about the cats! It certainly won't be the same without him. But we will remember him always and will cherish the memories. And we will continue to help care for the cats that Al knew and loved... as he would want us to.
Donations greatly appreciated and will be used to help our cat rescues!
We are a registered charity and income tax receipts will be issued for donations of $10 or more.

Our Mission Statement
TAPA advocates for the humane treatment of feral and stray cats, and promotes TNR (Trap Neuter Return), a humane solution to the overpopulation of cats in HRM. Our goal is to rescue colony kittens and provide them with medical care, and then place them for adoption. Adult cats that are not suitable for adoption are humanely live trapped, spayed, neutered, leukemia tested, vaccinated, ear notched for identification and then returned to their colony.
Our Values
Our commitment to TNR in HRM spans 20+ years. First and foremost, the cats we commit to helping are our first priority. The homes we entrust our rescues to must meet criteria which will ensure the kittens or cats are provided the best care possible and are in agreement to a life commitment of caring for this responsibility. We act with integrity in dealing with our rescues and are ambassadors for the feral cats who are often forgotten or overlooked in our society. As a registered society, we are accountable for the funds entrusted to us to care for our kitten and cat rescues and have an "open door policy".

Fundraising Dance Update!
Our fundraising dance was held on Oct 24th at the Sackville Heights Community Centre. While we would have
loved to have a larger turnout, we did have fun and managed to raise $300 to help our cat rescues!!
Special thanks to my friend Mille for all her hard work in organizing the dance!! And I also
want to thank those who helped with the event: Jackie at the Sackville Heights Community Centre
and Stewart's DJ Service for the music! Thanks also to Sheila and Rose for looking after
the ticket sales for the evening, and to my friend Jeanne, my father Cecil and my husband Mike
for helping to set up the tables and put everything away!
I also want to acknowledge with thanks, the businesses who donated prizes for our draws: McKesson Canada,
Durty Nelly's Irish Pub, Redwood Grill, Oakmount Station Pub, and Finbar's Irish Pub.
To all those who donated money or prizes, and to those who bought tickets even though they couldn't come,
your support is greatly appreciated!
With sincere thanks,
Angela Miller, President

Who We Are
TAPA (Taking Action to Protect Animals Society) has been involved in the care and rescue of kittens and adult cats
since August 2007. We have been able to help more than 200 kittens and cats from
6 different outdoor colonies in the HRM area.
Our goal has been to remove the kittens as soon as possible, have them tested for feline leukemia,
and vaccinated for distemper. They are then placed for adoption into loving, approved homes.
The older kittens and adults are assessed for suitability for adoption. If they are found to be unsocial
or unadoptable, they are spayed or neutered and returned to their colony. The cats are fed by
volunteers on a daily basis. In addition to providing food for the cats, we have been fortunate
to have several insulated shelters built and donated by caring volunteers, so that the cats can
stay dry and warm in bad weather.
Please take a moment to read about the special rescued kittens and adult cats that are now available
for adoption, and we welcome you to contact us for an adoption application. We hope that one of them will
tug at your heartstrings!!
