Who We Are
La Baie SPCA is a small group of dedicated volunteers situated in Clare, Nova Scotia. All our animals are placed in foster homes until they are adopted. We receive no government or other types of funding, and run solely on donations and fundraising we do ourselves. We are currently fundraising to build a shelter.
Adopting a friend
For you to adopt an animal You need to be sure you are financially able to provide for the animal's needs. This includes food, supplies, (dog) license, veterinary care and an annual check up and booster shots.
Be certain you have adequate time to spend with your new pet, including training, exercise and grooming. Have your landlord's consent to bring an animal onto his/her property. Have the consent of all the adults in your household.
Be at least 18 years of age and have proper identification.
Complete an adoption application form.
Understand that this is an adoption process, not a sale. The SPCA reserves the right to postpone or refuse an adoption. We'll check with you to see how you and your new pet are doing. Feel free to call us with problems.
E-mail or call us if you are interested in any of our animals.
Adoption costs
Dogs over 6 months of age (spayed/neutered) -- $130.00
Puppies 6 months & under -- $75.00
Cats over 6 months of age (spayed/neutered) -- $80.00
Kittens 6 months & under -- $55.00.
All have had their first vaccine and deworming. Cats and kittens are feline leuk tested. Animals under 6 months adopted outside of the Municipality of Clare are given a "proof of neuter" form. A deposit of $75 for dogs and $50 for cats will be left at time of adoption. This must be signed by vet at time of neuter/spay and refund of deposit will be sent in mail.
Spay and Neutering IS MANDATORY. Animals will be reclaimed by shelter if they are not neutered.
FOSTER HOMES URGENTLY NEEDED!!!
Since we currently don't have a shelter, foster homes are urgently needed for dogs and cats, puppies and kittens. We provide the food, litter and medical care. Fostering is a great experience that helps out needy animals by putting them in a home environment. A variety of animals need foster care, and fostering is a very rewarding experience. Please contact us for more information.
MEMBERSHIPS AND VOLUNTEERING
The best way to begin to help us is to become a member. Becoming a member is easy and inexpensive. Membership dues are $10 per year.
You can also volunteer to help with fundraisers.
